When you’re the grandchild of Steve “The Crocodile Hunter” Irwin, you’re going to grow up around all kinds of amazing wild animals. While Steve himself might not be with us anymore, his legacy is carried on by his wife, two children, and his young granddaughter. On Monday, his daughter Bindi Irwin shared an adorable video introducing her baby girl to another awesome animal – a giant tortoise.
Bindi married her husband Chandler Powell last year on March 25, 2020 in a private ceremony at the Australia Zoo. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the young couple chose to continue on with their wedding plans, but didn’t have any guests in attendance. While it may not have been the perfect wedding, Bindi and Chandler made the best of it.
Ironically, exactly one year later after getting hitched, the happy couple had much more to celebrate than just their first wedding anniversary. Bindi Irwin gave birth to their first child, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, on March 25, 2021. Ever since Grace’s birth, the proud parents have often shown off their little one on social media. And, of course, their photos and videos frequently include introducing the youngest Irwin to the Australia Zoo’s awesome animals.
That’s what Bindi did yesterday when introducing Grace to a giant tortoise. The little girl seems entranced by the huge tortoise, and we can’t blame her. Evidently the large animal is named Igloo, which is more than appropriate considering its shape. In the short clip, Grace’s famous mom pets Igloo on his head, neck, and chin while she looks on curiously.
“Tortoise smiles. Absolutely love spending time with Igloo. Grace is fascinated by this gentle giant,” Bindi Irwin wrote along with an emoji of a turtle.
Bindi Irwin Honors Her Father Steve’s Legacy at Fundraiser
Just a couple weeks ago, Bindi Irwin and her family honored the life and legacy of her father at the Steve Irwin Gala fundraiser. The event is to help support a cause that was always near and dear to Irwin’s heart – wildlife conservation.
It’s been 15 years since “The Crocodile Hunter” passed away, but his family still works hard to conserve wildlife all around the world. The annual gala in his name raises money that goes towards those efforts while honoring his memory.
Bindi was joined by her husband, Chandler, her brother, Robert, and their mother, Terri, at the gala. Young Grace made it as well, but as Bindi mentions, she fell asleep just before the event began. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Steve Irwin Gala without wild animals being included at the gala. In a series of photos, we see Robert holding an enormous spotted snake while Chandler holds a cute koala bear.
“The #SteveIrwinGala 2021. Raising funds and awareness for @wildlifewarriorsworldwide and celebrating Dad’s life and legacy,” Bindi Irwin says in her caption. “Thank you to everyone who was involved in this beautiful, emotional, inspiring night. (Our tiniest Wildlife Warrior, Grace, fell asleep just before the event started but she was there in her dreams. Swipe to see her khaki dress at the end).”
