The easy thing for an actor like Mariska Hargitay to do for Halloween is to go as her iconic Olivia Benson character from “Law & Order: SVU.” No offense to Special Victims Unit detectives, but that’s not exactly the most fun of costume options. Fortunately for us, Hargitay’s spooky holiday plans are completely controlled by her children.

The “Law & Order: SVU” star revealed, after some prodding, what her costume would be on the big day. And no, it’s not Christopher Meloni/Elliot Stabler, even though that would be hilarious.

“First of all, this year—it’s a spoiler alert—should I tell you what I’m being? Yes, I will because I’m proud of it. I’m going as Dorothy,” Hargitay told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on Live with Kelly and Ryan. “I feel like we’re the same age, and it feels right,” she joked.

That’s right, folks. Does it get any more heartwarming than a family of five dressed up as characters from “The Wizard of Oz”? Complete with Toto, we might add.

“My kids decide every year, and I just wait. Because they decide what we’re going to be,” she continued. “They’re really good at it.”

The show ran through a slideshow of Harigtay’s family costumes over the years. Past Halloween costumes included greek gods and goddesses, sugar skull face paint complete Dia de Los Muertos appropriate clothing, and of course, with kids at the wheel, characters from the Pixar classic “Inside Out.”

Dorothy is just another acting challenge for Mariska to tackle. The Harigtay family may outdo themselves this Halloween.

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Mariska Hargitay Has Been Giving Spoilers Beyond Her Halloween Plans

Okay, so the sneak peek Mariska Hargitay shared from the “Law & Order: SVU” set last week wasn’t exactly the resolution of her character’s relationship with Stabler. But she brought fans behind the long-running show’s scenes and admitted that she “probably shouldn’t have” brought a camera down there.

She certainly wasn’t bothering “Law & Order: SVU” fans with the Instagram video. However, she may have disrupted the workdays of the show’s crew. But hey, she’s been the star of the show for more than two decades. She goes where she wants at this point.

In reality, she was courteous and sensitive to all of the behind-the-scenes work going on. The “Law & Order: SVU” star whispered through the video so as not to disturb anything. She introduced fans to some underappreciated contributors to the show, including a makeup artist, the key production assistant, and a cameraman.

So it wasn’t a spoiler in the traditional sense, but the snapshot into what makes a show like “Law & Order: SVU” tick was cool, nonetheless.
