Forty years ago today, Dec. 28, Pat Sajak stepped onto the stage as the “Wheel of Fortune” host for the first time ever.
It’s incredible to think that the “Wheel of Fortune” host has maintained such an incredible legacy and position for four decades. Millions of households grew up watching him every weeknight, trying to solve thousands of puzzles. And hopefully, millions more will have a chance to see him host in the coming years.
Earlier this week, Sajak mentioned his “Wheel of Fortune” anniversary among many other celebrations happening this week. He posted about the exciting week on Twitter (where he commonly makes jokes and sarcastic comments to the delight of fans).
“What a week! Dec 25…Christmas Day. Dec 28…40th anniversary of my first ‘Wheel’ on NBC daytime. Dec 31…32nd wedding anniversary. Jan 1…2022 begins. And it almost has to be better than 2021, doesn’t it? Well, doesn’t it?” Sajak wrote on Christmas Eve.
We’re with you, Pat. Hopefully, 2022 will turn things around for the better. But let’s take a moment to congratulate the longtime host not only on his 40th “Wheel of Fortune” anniversary but also on his wedding anniversary to the lovely Lesly Brown.
Other “Wheel of Fortune” fans also congratulated Sajak today, including a Twitter account called Silver Age Television. You’ve got to check out the iconic photo they posted of Sajak from Dec. 28, 1981.
While “Wheel of Fortune” itself hasn’t congratulated Sajak yet on social media, we’re sure they’ll post something later today. In the meantime, let’s dive into some fan reactions to Sajak’s 40th “Wheel” anniversary.
‘Wheel of Fortune’ Fans Celebrate Host Pat Sajak’s 40th Anniversary on Show
After “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak posted about his 40th anniversary on Twitter, many fans took to the comments to celebrate his longtime success on the show.
“Thank you to you & Vanna for all of these years of the Wheel! At 67, I have so many memories. Even my dear mom & dad watching the Wheel all of their years from the beginning. Holding hands side by side & so enjoying figuring out the puzzles,” Twitter user Terry Law wrote.
Another fan said, “Congrats, Mr. Sajak, on the longevity of your life and its ventures. You’re a true American success story.”
Even Maryland-based restaurant Jimmy’s Famous Seafood gave the “Wheel of Fortune” host a shoutout. “4 decades of unrivaled excellence! Congratulations to you and the entire team, Pat – and Merry Christmas!”
Luckily for fans, it looks like Sajak and co-host Vanna White won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. The duo renewed their contracts earlier this year to extend through 2024. So, we have at least a few more years of seeing Sajak and White on our screens! After that, we can assume they’ll enjoy a very nice retirement.
