The Christmas Eve episode of everyone’s favorite word-solving game show, Wheel of Fortune featured a pretty impressive musical contestant. The Friday evening edition of Wheel of Fortune brought on one Ozarks musical legend. And, the appearance also brought with it a bit of a lesson as to how the famous musician acquired his unique nickname.
During the game show’s introductions at the start of the episode, one of the cofounders of the popular music group the Ozark Mountain Daredevils Michael “Supe” Granda explained to Wheel’s hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White how he came to be known as “Supe.”
And, as with any distinctive and memorable nickname such as “Supe,” the story involves some interesting topics such as a well-known superhero and a bit of hard liquor.
According to the Ozarks music legend, his nickname came about while he was attending college. The story, the Ozark Mountain Daredevil co-founder explains, involves a Superman costume and a bottle of Tequila.
While music may be Michael “Supe” Granda’s game, he certainly showed he has a propensity for word puzzles as well during his Wheel of Fortune appearance. In total, the music legend won a whopping $9,500 during his run as a contestant on the popular game show.
In addition to sharing his truly original story regarding his nickname, Supe Granda also discussed the Ozark Mountain Daredevils’ number one musical hit, “Jackie Blue.”
According to Supe, his appearance on Wheel of Fortune comes from his love of his own grandkids. His grandkids, Supe explains, were the ones who encouraged him to take a shot on the Friday night episode of the popular game show.
‘Wheel of Fortune’ Player Has a Heartbreaking Loss
We all certainly love to see some big winners on the popular word-solving game show. And, when a player misses a puzzle forfeiting a prize we all feel the pain. This, of course, becomes even more emotional when the Wheel contestant misses a win due to a small technicality.
Recently, one Wheel of Fortune contestant paused while solving the puzzle. The pause, showrunners say, was a little too long and it resulted in the contestant losing the prize.
Charlene Rubush voiced the correct answer before the Wheel of Fortune buzzer sounded. However, Sajak and the rest of the Wheel of Fortune team noted the pause was long enough to void her correct guess. This loss cost Rubush a brand new Audi. And, the call angered quite a few Wheel fans.
Many viewers took to social media to voice their disappointment with the call. And, it seems Audi heard all of the commotions. Not long after her loss, the popular car company reached out to Rubush via Twitter. Noting that they certainly view the contestant as a winner.
“You’re a winner in our eyes, Charlene,” the Audi Twitter page writes in a December 22 post.
“Now, let’s get you a prize,” the company notes. “Time to #GiveHerTheQ3.”
