Which ‘NCIS’ Characters Deserve More Praise on the Show?

by Joe Rutland

One of the best things about NCIS is that there have been a lot of great characters over the years. Which ones deserve more praise?

Let’s take a look with some help from Matt & Jess.

One of them is Leon Vance, played by Rocky Carroll. Now the actor is not in front of the camera as much these days because, well, he’s directing a lot of NCIS episodes. But Vance is definitely a character that deserves some more time.

He is the boss and helps us as viewers stay connected to see NCIS work with other governmental parts. What might keep viewers interested even more in Vance? How about some personal life stories or, even, some deep-dive storylines around the NCIS itself. Just an idea, show writers, for our buddy Leon.

‘NCIS’ Character Jessica Knight Could Definitely Use Some More Storylines

Next up in the character-who-needs-more-time department is Jessica Knight, played by Katrina Law. NCIS could really add some punch in future episodes by looking at Knight’s life.

Any ideas about some romantic interludes? How about giving her a little love interest as we’re still going through some new episodes on CBS. Sure, it’s just 10 episodes into this season but let’s get busy already. We do know that a lot of her former team is all gone. Also, trust is not one of her power traits. It is what it is, as the kids say.

This actress has a lot of experience that she brings into the show. Here’s hoping, Outsiders, that they do find a way to get her more active.

Longtime Gibbs Friend Tobias Fornell Deserves Fun Plots From TV Show

Finally, we have Tobias Fornell, one of Jethro Gibbs’ old-school friends, played by Joe Spano. OG NCIS fans know that Fornell is a former FBI Special Agent who works, at times, with the NCIS Major Case Response Team.

Will there be more Tobias in the show’s future? We don’t know. Here’s an idea for a different storyline for Fornell: One that is fun and lighthearted. But it would be cool to see him work with others beyond Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon. This guy has been through a lot of hardship and suffered personal losses, including his daughter’s death.

We think that is enough to keep those NCIS writers for the rest of this season and beyond. Want to see some new episodes coming up? Tune in after the New Year kicks off into 2022 and see them on Mondays at 9 p.m Eastern, 8 p.m. Central, on CBS.

Oh, will Harmon return to the show? Technically, he is still with it as an executive producer. We don’t know if he will be back in front of the camera.
