Why ‘Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond Feels ‘Protective’ of Foster Son

by Amy Myers

Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond has four biological children and one foster son that she loves just as much. Jamar is the home chef’s “bonus child” that has become an essential part of the rancher family and will always be welcome in their home. And as heartwarming and inspiring as the Drummonds’ story with Jamar is, for a while, we didn’t know too much about Ree’s foster son.

As it turns out, this was an intentional effort to protect Jamar from any unwanted publicity. Drummond didn’t want to exploit her son for any personal gain, so she waited until Jamar was a bit older before she truly introduced him to the world. Once it was time, the proud mama dedicated a post on her official website to her foster son.

“I feel protective of Jamar and have always wanted his story to be his own and not fodder for my social media,” Ree Drummond wrote in her post dedicated to her son.

Another reason why Drummond waited to introduce Jamar to the world had to do with the legal restrictions that come with fostering a child. In order to prevent any unwarranted contact from the biological parents, families cannot post any content online with the child until he or she turns 18.

Ree Drummond Spends Plenty of Quality Time with Foster Son

Now that Jamar is officially an adult, he is a frequent feature in Ree Drummond’s social media posts as well as her cookbooks. On Thanksgiving, after cooking a turkey we can only dream of, Drummond posted a sweet photo of herself “relaxin'” next to her bonus son. And clearly, the two were on the verge of a couple of food comas.

“Chillin’, relaxin’, laughin’, and about two seconds away from a tryptophan nap. Also, those are not my eyebrows, they’re shadows from my glasses. Remind me not to wear these glasses again. Hope you’re all having a happy day! I used squirt whipped cream on my from scratch pecan pie. Bye.”

Just one week earlier, Ree Drummond also shared a shot of a moment in which Jamar was admiring a particularly beautiful sunset. Meanwhile, his mother was admiring a particularly special addition to their family.

“Pics of Jamar in the sunset taking pics of the sunset. There probably should have been punctuation somewhere in that sentence, but the sunset fried my brain with its majesty. Love you, Jamar!”

And of course, the best way to celebrate Mother’s Day is with a photo with some of her favorite people. Ree Drummond shared a hilarious “How it’s going vs. how it started” post that captured her relationship with her sons.
