It’s a brand new era as we rock in the brand new year during the annual New Years’ Eve special welcoming in 2022 next week. NBC has now announced that they have decided to give longtime host Carson Daly the boot from the gig. This news comes after the host of The Voice has been helping us celebrate the new year for nearly two decades.

Stepping in to replace the popular host this year is music superstar Miley Cyrus and Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson.

The duo will be helping us ring in 2022 as they host the New Years’ Eve special from Miami, Florida next weekend. Of course, with a Saturday Night Live player at the helm of this upcoming New Years’ Eve special, the creator of the popular sketch comedy series, Lorne Michaels will be producing.

And, what is a New Years’ Eve celebration without some amazing music to help us count down to our brand new year?

Among the acts scheduled to perform on New Year’s Eve night are Brandi Carlile; Billie Joe Armstrong; Saweetie; Jack Harlow; 24kGoldn; Anitta; and Kitty Ca$h.

“In what is sure to be an exciting and fun evening, we are looking forward to partnering with Lorne Michaels and ringing in 2022 with a night of incredible entertainment, led by Miley and Pete,” notes Jen Neal, Executive Vice President, Live Events, Specials, and E! News, NBC Universal.

‘The Voice’s’ Carson Daly Is A Television Staple

Carson Daly can be seen co-anchoring the wildly popular NBC morning news mainstay, The Today Show.

The longtime television personality has been hosting the NBC New Years’ Eve special since 2004. The Voice’s Carson Daly was a mainstay every year since, except for in 2017.

This was the year that the NBC New Years’ Eve special was pre-empted by an NFL broadcast.

Now, it seems the writing has been on the wall for this change for some time now. This fall, rumors began swirling that music superstar and former Disney star Miley Cyrus would be taking over the reins. This news comes as the upcoming New Years’ Eve special prepares to run.

We love calling in the New Year with their television and the superstars that celebrate along with us. But we also know that this move by NBC is a risky one.

The popular live broadcast has competed with the long-running New Years Rocking Eve specials on NBC. This, of course, was brought to audiences by beloved host Dick Clark.

ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest brings in a number of viewers each year.
