Would ‘Blue Bloods’ Star Marisa Ramirez Ever Return to ‘General Hospital’ Universe?

by Keeli Parkey

Years before she joined the cast of “Blue Bloods,” actress Marisa Ramirez played a role on the long-running daytime soap opera “General Hospital.”

According to IMDb, the now 44-year-old actress played the character of Gia Campbell in the soap opera from 2000 to 2002. In total, she appeared in 110 episodes of the show. According to Pop Culture, Ramirez also played Campbell in the “General Hospital” spinoff series, “Port Charles.”

When Ramirez exited the “General Hospital” universe, Gia Campbell was still alive. Another actress, Andrea Pearson, played the character following Ramirez’s exit. The show didn’t kill the character even when Pearson left the show. So, it is possible that Ramirez could once again step into Campbell’s shoes. As fans of the long-time soap opera are aware, Campbell was a publicist, an attorney, and a model in the series.

Given that her character is still alive, leads to a question. Would Marisa Ramirez consider making a return to the “General Hospital” universe?

In short – yes, the “Blue Bloods” actress would consider returning to the soap opera. One draw for her is where it is filmed. The show is shot in California. “Blue Bloods,” on the other hand, is filmed in New York City.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Said She Would Like to Work Closer to Home.

California is home to Marisa Ramirez. It is where she was born and raised. So, it makes sense that she would want to work closer to home.

“I mean, California is my home. My family is there. That’s where my heart is. And any opportunity to go back to California, I’d take,” the Los Angeles native shared in March 2021.

The “Blue Bloods” actress also said she would consider working on “General Hospital” again because she was happy being a part of the series.

“I had such an amazing time on ‘General Hospital.’ It’s such a beautiful learning experience and so many amazing people there. I mean, who knows what could happen? I’m open to anything, but I think that might be here a little while longer, so we’ll see,” Marisa Ramirez also shared.

Ramirez’s tenure on “Blue Bloods” has lasted much longer than her tenure on “General Hospital.” She joined the cop drama in 2013. The show’s 12th season premiered in early October and Ramirez is still playing Detective Maria Baez. Baez is the partner of Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg).

Unsurprisingly, Ramirez is very happy to be part of the “Blue Bloods” family. “I’ve created a life for myself here on the East coast, and I had a kid. And so, I can still be a mom and have work. Because I am not a Reagan, I get those extra days off. So it’s worked out beautifully, and I’m having a good time,” the actress explained.

In thinking about her possible return to “General Hospital,” Marisa Ramirez also reflected on her career. “There was a phase where I was the crying girlfriend. It was the sad girlfriend. It was like a bunch of guest star roles that was happening for a little while. Then maybe something happened in my personal life, where I just kind of evolved as a person and found some strength that was being seen in these casting rooms, and I just kept being cast as a cop,” she explained.
