Shania Twain got creative in her performance for this year’s CMT Music Awards.
The awards took place both remotely and at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park’s amphitheater in Nashville. They broadcast Wednesday evening.
Some performances happened outdoors in Nashville. Meanwhile, others aired from locations as diverse as a Los Angeles dive bar, Ruskin Cave in Dickson County, Tennessee, Sycamore Farms in Williamson County, Tennessee and an attic in Ashland City, the Tennessean reported.
Twain’s Interesting Backdrop
Twain performed the song “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?”, her 1995 hit. She sang it from a Switzerland museum full of mannequins.
The museum is dedicated to Charlie Chaplin. At one point, Twain crooned to a mannequin of Chaplin himself. It’s located in Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland, according to CMT.
Moreover, the performance recalled Twain’s original music video, which was set was set in a diner full of men who give her the cold shoulder. The mannequins were similarly uncooperative. But they made great props for Twain. Her energetic performance earned rave reviews.
CMT tweeted, “SPEECHLESS after country legend @ShaniaTwain rocked the #CMTawards stage!”
The replies were full of enthusiastic comments for the country star.
“Charlie Chaplin wanted to give that famous cane of his a whirl after being serenaded by Shania!” tweeted Rosemary Bosque.
“@ShaniaTwain can sing anywhere she wants cuz she has the crowd in the palm of her hands!!!” tweeted Nina Langford. “The woman just knows how to entertain.”
A Happy Ending for Twain
Further, the song appeared on Twain’s second studio album, “The Woman in Me.” She co-wrote it with her husband at the time, Robert “Mutt” Lange. But Lange reportedly had an affair with Twain’s best friend. So Twain and Lange divorced in 2010.
Twain later married the other woman’s ex-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud. He is a Swiss Nestle executive. The couple now has a home together in Switzerland.
