7-Day ‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Matt Amodio Reveals Contestants Spend ‘Little Time’ with ‘Anybody’ from Show

Matt Amodio’s run on “Jeopardy!” has been one for the ages. In his seven wins, he has earned $268,800. This total moved him into the top-10 earners in the history of the popular quiz show.

As of Sunday, Aug. 1, Amodio, who is a Ph.D. student and lives in New Haven, Connecticut, is ranked ninth on the list of the contestants who have won the most money. The person in the eighth spot on that list is Arthur Chu. He won 11 episodes of “Jeopardy!” and earned $298,200 in the process.

Given his success on the show, it’s not surprising that the media would want to talk to Amodio about his experiences on the show. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the “Jeopardy!” champion revealed that the show’s contestants are fairly isolated from the people who work on the quiz show. This, however, isn’t all bad. In fact, it allows the contestants to form a bond they might not have otherwise, according to Amodio.

“Also, one thing I did not know going in is the camaraderie that the contestants get, because we actually spend relatively little time with anybody from the show,” “Jeopardy!” champion Matt Amodio shared.

According to the champion, he and other contestants were fairly isolated.

“Most of our time, we’re just amongst ourselves,” Amodio also said.

This isolation allows the contestants to have fun and relax while facing the pressure of the show.

“And so it’s kind of like that classroom atmosphere where you just put a bunch of kids who don’t know each other together, and eventually they form friendships,” Amodio explained.

While short, the time he spent with his “Jeopardy!” opponents was important to Matt Amodio and he will remember them.

“I see these other people on TV, and even though I just met them that one day, they feel like old friends now,” he also said.

‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Matt Amodio Responds to People Who Criticize How He Plays the Game

While he has earned quite a bit of money during his time competing on “Jeopardy!”, Matt Amodio has also faced a lot of criticism for how he plays the game. Amodio has fired back at those critics.

One of the things Amodio does on the quiz show is begin each of his responses with “what is.” He does not use “who is” when an answer is a person. Right or wrong, this part of his gameplay has really annoyed some fans of “Jeopardy!” And, they made their voices known via social media.

On Saturday, July 31, Amodio fired back at his critics on Twitter. “If you would enjoy watching a #jeopardy game with 100% less me, a reminder: check your local listings for some awesome weekend re-runs!” Amodio posted.

Unsurprisingly, there were both positive and negative reactions to this tweet.

“My mom is recovering from heart surgery and we are loving watching you kill it every night!” one “Jeopardy!” viewer responded to Amodio’s tweet.

One of the negative reactions was: “We’re enjoying watching you, but the lack of using the correct Q is driving me bananas.”
