9-1-1 star Oliver Stark sometimes can’t believe the scripts when he first reads them. The show is no stranger to shocking, and occasionally absurd moments, so the actor sometimes can’t wrap his head around what goes on in his own show. Stark, of course, plays Evan Buckley. Buckley is one of the key characters working for the Los Angeles Fire department.

“Literally my first thought, nine times out of ten, when we get a script is, “How do we pull that off?” Thankfully, I’m not the one in charge of making it happen; I just have to show up. We really do have an incredible crew of people that, by the time we turn up to set, it’s all done, it’s all ready for us,” Stark said in an interview with AssignmentX.

But Stark recognizes that all the crazy action and twists aren’t enough to make the show interesting. They have to rely on the characters as well. 9-1-1‘s first responders are constantly putting themselves in harm’s way for the sake of others.

“I think with any show, action is great, and spectacle is fantastic, but it’s when you care about the people involved, then you have a good show, and you have a show where people are going to come back,” he said.

Over the years, the show has become more and more focused on the characters involved. Many of the show’s events really focused on individual characters’ struggles.

“I feel like, as the seasons have gone on, and the audience has connected more and more with the characters, and become more invested, I feel like the emergencies become more urgent, because we care about the people involved in them, whether or not they’re going to live or die,” he said.

The Most Challenging Stunt Oliver Stark has Done for ‘9-1-1’

As of April 12th last year when the AssignmentX interview took place, the most challenging stunt Oliver Stark has had to do was during the Tsunami episodes that opened season 3. Apparently, there was a ton that they didn’t even use for the show that shows Stark swimming against the powerful current.

They had to take a ton of shots, and even though Stark said he considers himself a good swimmer, it totally took it out of him. They filmed the stunt shots in a massive tank in Rosarita, Mexico. Those massive pools were also used when filming The Titanic.

Now, 9-1-1 is in its 5th season. The show, which premiered earlier this fall, has already had some jaw-dropping moments. If you want to catch Oliver Stark and the rest of the cast on the series, you can tune in to FOX on Mondays at 8/7 central.
