She has been starring as Maddie Buckley, the operator of 9-1-1 since the show’s second season, but is Jennifer Love Hewitt planning to depart from the hit series anytime soon?
According to Newsweek, 9-1-1 fans are worried that Love Hewitt’s Maddie may actually be the next character to leave. This is due to the fact that the series’ showrunner teased that Love Hewitt’s character will struggle with mental problems in the show’s fifth season.
In a recent episode of 9-1-1, Maddie was unable to cope with her struggles anymore. She left baby Jee-Yun at a firehouse. She also reveals in a video that the baby is not safe with her right now. The character has since disappeared. Her boyfriend Chimney, played by Kenneth Choi, went out of town looking for Maddie in the show’s latest episode.
There is yet to be any confirmation as to if Jennifer Love Hewitt has officially departed from 9-1-1.
Jennifer Love Hewitt Talks Returning to Acting & Becoming a 9-1-1 Dispatcher
In a 2018 interview with LA Times, Jennifer Love Hewitt opened up about returning to her acting career and taking on the role on 9-1-1 as the operator. When asked how she would handle being an operator personally, the actress admitted, “I’d be such a nervous Nelly. I’d panic. I’d be the worst 9-1-1 operator. What they do is amazing. The pressure they are under and their ability to stay calm so that they can get someone the help they need is incredible.”
While also speaking about her time away from acting, the 9-1-1 castmate explained that she needed to take some time for herself and needed to grieve her mother, who passed away from cancer in 2012. “I needed to become a new mom [and] needed to learn how to be a wife. There was a lot going on in my own life that just felt like I needed some space and some time to kind of be.”
The 9-1-1 star further explained she really enjoyed the break. “I feel like now, the last few months, having gone back into acting. It’s really done a beautiful thing for me in that it’s made everything that I do in my acting/entertainment life not less important. But less like, ‘It’s everything all the time.’ Like it used to be.”
