Rob Lowe, the handsome fire captain of 9-1-1: Lone Star, knows how to live well and turn a nifty real estate profit.

A year ago, he sold the family mansion in gorgeous Montecito, Calif., for an eye-popping $45.5 million. Folks who live outside Santa Barbara know they’re paying for location, location, location. Other celebrities who make this Pacific hamlet their home include Oprah Winfrey, Drew Barrymore, Prince Harry and wife, Meghan Markle. Katy Perry also recently bought a house in Montecito.

Lowe, who portrays Capt. Owen Strand on 9-1-1: Lone Star, raised his family in the home, which was named “Oakview.” Lowe and his wife, Sheryl, had the 20-room mansion built on a four-acre piece of prized real estate. The home combined his love for California with a country vibe he appreciated from growing up in Charlottesville, Va.

“I’ve always been drawn to a historic, east coast American aesthetic,” the face of 9-1-1 Lone Star told Architectural Digest for its November 2010 cover story on “Oakview.”

“But a house also has to be comfortable, able to withstand the simultaneous traffic of teenagers playing football on the lawn, barbecuing on the patio, me slipping off to write. Our challenge was extrapolating our views on how to live our lives and raise our children into what we need in a home. Working in TV and film, my strengths are composition and sight line, while Sheryl works great spatially. When it comes to design, she’s as good as it gets.”

The Lowe’s Montecito home featured six bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. Outside, the grounds featured two fireplaces, a large pool and hot tub and a tennis court.

But when Lowe’s two children moved out of the home, it was time to downsize. The site TheRealDeal.com reported that the Lowes bought three houses in 2020. Two were in Montecito and another was located in Beverly Hills. Coincidentally, Lowe’s 9-1-1: Lone Star premiered in January, 2020.

The main Montecito home, which was built in 1925, cost the Lowes $13 million. It’s half as big as Oakview, with five bedrooms and six bathrooms. But it’s on 6.7 acres, with an additional two guest homes.

Also in 2020, the 9-1-1: Lone Star fire captain spent $3.75 million on a house in Beverly Hills and $5.2 million for a smaller property in Montecito.

Lowe and the rest of the 9-1-1: Lone Star cast are in production for season three. However, Fox has yet to reveal a specific premiere date. It’ll kick off in the spring TV season. It’s sister show, 9-1-1, premiered a month ago.

Ronen Rubinstein, who plays Lowe’s son, T.K., on 9-1-1: Lone Star, talked about how fortunate he was to work with the actor.

“Of course,” Rubinstein told AssignmentX in 2020. “Any time you get to work with someone who’s been doing it for so long, and has such a career — I mean, I feel so fortunate and blessed to be in this position. Because I’m so fresh in this business.”
