“28 years ago, this man came into my life and changed me forever,” the 9-1-1: Lone Star actor declared in the post, which features a snapshot of his son wearing a cowboy hat. “Thank you, Matthew, for giving my life a value I never dreamed. Happy Birthday! I love you.”
Matthew is the oldest son of the 9-1-1 Lone Star actor and his wife, Sheryl Lowe. The couple has been married since 1991. Their sons are Matthew and John.
Rob Lowe Teams Up With His Son John & Brother Chad for ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’
In May 2021, Rob Lowe opened up with Entertainment Tonight about working alongside his son, John, and his brother, Chad, on 9-1-1: Lone Star. John is now a writer and Chad is a director for the show.
“I’m so happy and proud,” Lowe declared about his son and brother joining the 9-1-1: Lone Star crew. “And it makes coming to work even more fun than it usually does.”
Chad also said that he has directed his brother before and that the duo always have fun. “It feels a little bit like we’re drawing out plays in the backyard for a touch football game. So there’s that kind of creative energy that we bring to it.”
The 9-1-1: Lone Star actor also said that when it comes to working with his family, he trusts them as both peers and collaborators. “We can have a full conversation bout a scene or a sequence and I’ll forget that it’s my son. I’ll forget that it’s brother.”
John also said getting to work with his father on the 9-1-1: Lone Star set is an opportunity he really appreciates. He then stated it’s rare that you get to be best friends with someone and also look up to them. “You know, we work in the same industry. So I get to not only look up to him on an emotional level. But also a career level. Which is amazing to me.”
Lowe also looked back at his and Chad’s work together, which was when they were kids. “Our first collaboration, Chad, might’ve been the haunted house we would make in grandpa’s garage,” Lowe recalled. He also stated to his sibling that they have had really good collaborations over years.
John has notably been writing for 9-1-1: Lone Star since the show’s first season and even before his father actually signed on to be cast member. “We’ve had some good episodes together. And I was thrilled when Chad was slated to direct this next one.”
9-1-1: Lone Star is expected to return for its third season in January 2022 on Fox.
