‘9-1-1’: Watch Los Angeles Fall into Chaos After ‘Whole City’ Gets Hacked in New Season 5 Trailer

by Jacklyn Krol

9-1-1 is about to experience déjà vu in Season 5.

On Thursday, August 26, a new trailer for the show’s fifth season was released.

“I really thought this year was going to be different,” Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) said in the clip. “Earthquake alert?”

“Weird, you guys feel anything?” Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark) said. His phone then said that there is an incoming tsunami. Meanwhile, Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) said that there was a mudslide instead.

“It’s like our greatest hits,” Howie “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi) exclaimed. It turns out, the city of Los Angeles was hacked.

The last teaser in July showed that there was a big natural disaster to come. A photo promo showed people running away from exotic animals like a lion, giraffe, and elephant in a stampede.

The 118 squad will have to deal with the major blackout over the span of the first three episodes. During this time, Athena will be confronting the serial rapist that she caught during Season 3.

The fourth season concluded with numerous cliffhangers that left fans wanting more. Buck and Taylor made their relationship official (finally!) Meanwhile, Eddie was recovering after being shot by the sniper. Karen and Hen ran into Nia and her birth mother and shared a picnic. Additionally, Albert is becoming a firefighter. Finally, Maddie admitted to Chimney that she has been mentally struggling after giving birth.

‘9-1-1’ Future Details

The series’ spinoff 9-1-1 Lonestar won’t return until next year after being delayed.

“The idea is that Lone Star is going to come back in January after the first 10 episodes of 9-1-1, air for 10 episodes, and then for the last eight, they’ll both air on the same night, back to back again,” showrunner Tim Minear told TV Insider. By then, they’d “need to be on the same timeline because I do think that there is probably in a crossover in the future there.” Could it be a two-part special?

Minear also revealed that Maddie’s troubles are just beginning. He said that it is a story that he wants to across a number of episodes.

“It’s a story that I don’t want to give short shrift to,” he shared. “It will end up creating a major complication for Season 5.”

He revealed that Buck and Taylor’s relationship will develop. Minear came up with the idea for Buck to have a love interest during Season 2. He first envisioned the character to be a tech millionaire instead of being a television reporter. This also helped him with another aspect that he wanted to weave into the series.

“But I’ve always felt like there was an interesting element there that works in the universe of 9-1-1 with the media. It’s something we haven’t really drilled down on, or found the very specific unique way to tell a story using that element,” he shared.

The 9-1-1 Season 5 premiere will take place on Monday, September 20 at 8/7c on Fox.
