The entertainment and sports worlds collided in February when NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers and movie star Shailene Woodley confirmed their engagement. While details of their upcoming nuptials have been sparse, new reports suggest a summer wedding date in California complete with A-list guests.
Friendship Turns Into Love
Aaron Rodgers, 37, is the long-time, Super Bowl-winning quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. It came as a surprise to many people when he revealed in February that he was engaged. He’d come off back-to-back relationships with actress Olivia Munn (2014-2017) and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick (2018-2020).
Rodgers broke the engagement news without naming Woodley during his acceptance speech after winning the NFL Most Valuable Player award. Woodley, 29, confirmed several weeks later on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” that she was indeed the lucky lady, even if their relationship seemed to come out of nowhere after first being friends.
“He’s, first off, just a wonderful, incredible human being. But I never thought I’d be engaged with somebody who threw balls for a living,” Woodley explained to Fallon. “We met during this wacky, wacky time and all the stadiums were closed that he was playing in, so I have yet to go to a football game. I didn’t really grow up with sports, especially American sports. It was never really on my radar. When we met, also, I knew he was a football guy, but I didn’t know, like, what kind of a football guy he was. And I’m still constantly learning.”
Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley’s Wedding Plans
In Touch reports, relying on a source close to the couple, that the pair will marry in Big Sur, Calif., later this summer. Located on the California coast, Big Sur features both beaches and redwood forests with gorgeous views. Woodley reportedly wants a “boho-chic style” ceremony, complete with limpid guitar music while guests arrive followed by hand-written vows exchanged in the woods.
While there’ll be roughly 50 people at the wedding, the guest list will feature quality over quantity. Of course, members of both Aaron Rodgers’ and Shailene Woodley’s families will be there. But you can count on her Hollywood friends and co-stars such as Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Meryl Streep attending too.
