Right now on TV, you can find a drama show on just about every crime agency you can think of —well, almost all. Kevin Costner pitched “National Parks Investigation” to ABC, a series that follows National Park Service agents that solve crimes and keep national parks intact at the same time. For a lot of outdoor enthusiasts, this seemed like the perfect show that married crime drama with wildland conservation. Unfortunately, though, ABC has decided to let this idea go.

ABC Rejects Costner’s Pilot and Two Others

According to Variety, the cast for “National Parks Investigation” would have been Billy Campbell, Angel Parker, Guillermo Diaz, Tiffany Dupont, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, Blu Hunt and Gerardo Celasco.

Parker appeared on other crime shows like Criminal Minds and American Crime Story.

Besides Costner, the writing and executive production team consisted of Aaron Helbing and Jon Baird. Helbing was a part of the screenwriting team for Spartacus, Black Sails, and for The CW superhero drama The Flash. Baird is a BBC Television film director.

Along with Costner’s pitch, ABC rejected two other pilot proposals. “Triage” is a medical drama that focuses on a pioneering surgeon, Finley Briar. The show demonstrates his thirty years at the same hospital. Among its starring cast was Michael Ealy, whose most famous roles are in 2 Fast 2 Furious, Stumptown, and Barbershop.

The third rejected pilot was “Dark Horse.” This Australian-formatted drama follows indigenous woman Alex Irving throughout her journey into politics. Despite the fact that ABC didn’t take the pilot, the show’s team plans to pitch the idea elsewhere.

Of all the shows pitched to the network, ABC only added one drama, “Queens,” to the 2021-2022 season. The show features an all-female hip-hop group that reignites its glory days from the 1990s to the present day.

Kevin Costner ‘Can’t Say’ If He’ll Continue with ‘Yellowstone’

When he’s not pitching new shows to ABC, Kevin Costner is the face of the Paramount show, Yellowstone. In his leading role, Costner plays John Dutton, a sixth-generation homesteader who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. However, even as the lead character, there was speculation among fans that Costner would be leaving the show in Season 4. When anchor Rosanna Scotto of Good Day New York asked the actor about the fate of his character, Costner didn’t qualm any fears.

“I can’t say,” Costner said. “There’s an ending that you’re gonna see, hopefully it’s a powerful one for you.”

He continued, “I try to make things and be a part of things that have a dramatic arc to them. Just try to enjoy it right up to the end if you can.”

As if fans weren’t nervous enough, now the wait for Season 4 seems exponentially longer.
