The beautiful photo of Bear’s parents come as his first post since announcing his father’s death. Bear was the first of his family to break the news of Billy Brown’s passing six days ago. Within, he gave a heartbreaking glimpse into the family’s loss.

“We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved patriarch Billy Brown passed away last night after suffering from a seizure,” Bear wrote, letting the world know of the patriarch’s death. “He was our best friend – a wonderful and loving dad, granddad and husband and he will be dearly missed.”

“He lived his life on his terms, off the grid and off the land and taught us to live like that as well,” Bear continued of the ‘Alaskan Bush People’ pioneer. “We plan to honor his legacy going forward, and to continue with his dream.  We ask for privacy and prayers during this painful time! Billy Brown: Tragic Past Leads to Discovery Legend

Thankfully for fans, the 13th season of ‘Alaskan Bush People’ has already filmed, giving fans plenty more episodes with the family. Hopefully, however, his health concerns will not be focused on, so fans can celebrate his life through his finer qualities one last time out in the wilds of Alaska.

While many assume the Brown’s have always been a part of the state, the truth reveals a far stranger path. As fans of Billy Brown and his legacy will know, the pioneer lost his entire immediate family in one tragic incident several decades ago.

Billy’s entire immediate family died in a private plane crash when he was only 16-years-old. In 1969, his mother, father, and sister, his only sibling, died after their aircraft got caught in a deadly thunderstorm.

“I got a call from my grandparents point blank ‘well your mom, dad, and sister died in a plane crash’,” the late Brown recalls in the “Ballad of Billy Brown” episode we recently revisited.

Making the tragedy far worse, Billy Brown was reportedly tricked into signing documents for emancipation after their death. At 16, this left the young man without his family’s considerable estate and fortune. As a result, Billy would wander the country penniless.

As Billy Brown’s own fruitful life, alongside the years documented in ‘Alaskan Bush People’ show, the pioneer was able to turn his entire life around, giving rise to his own family and a prominent legacy for the Browns.
