‘Alaskan Bush People’: Brown Family Tree Features Some Lesser-Known Members

by John Jamison

The Browns are a fascinating family. It’s part of what makes “Alaskan Bush People” such a compelling show. But the show itself doesn’t tell the entire story. No. For that, one needs to conduct a little research. And by research, we mean the whole Brown family tree is available via the Discovery Channel. But the contents of said tree are both expected and surprising, in equal parts. Let’s dive in.

Fans of “Alaskan Bush People” will be aware that Brown family patriarch Billy Brown passed away in February. What they may not be aware of, though, is that Billy was sowing his wild oats long before he met his wife, Ami.

That’s right. The “Alaskan Bush People” star had a wife named Brenda when he was 16 years old. According to Radar Online, Billy and Brenda got married in Texas and reportedly had two children together. But per the family tree and her appearance on a 2016 episode of “Alaskan Bush People,” Twila is the only child from the first marriage.

Billy Brown admitted that he had removed himself from his first family’s lives. In fact, in a fittingly timed Facebook post from June 2020, the Brown family’s eldest child wrote “Happy Father’s Day to the absentee father.” So it wasn’t a big, happy reunion when everyone was reunited/met for the first time.

Twila herself had two children, one of which passed away as a result of a car crash. Her other daughter, Bronte, is Billy Brown’s first grandchild. These family members aren’t publicized very much as they’re not true “Alaskan Bush People.” But then again, even the Brown family we recognize from TV has come under fire for never having lived a true backcountry lifestyle either.

The ‘Alaskan Bush People’ We Know From the Show

So the “secret” family has been covered. But it never hurts to go back over Billy Brown’s more famous brood. There are seven of them, after all.

In order from oldest to youngest, we have Matt, Bam Bam, Bear, Gabe, Noah, Bird, and Rain.

Of course, three of them have families of their own now, adding even more grandchildren to Billy’s line. In 2019, Noah and Rhain had a son named Elijah. Later in 2019, Bear and Raiven had a son that they named River. And in the same year, Gabe and Rose also had a healthy baby.

“God has blessed us in so many ways and we can’t wait to meet our little one this fall,” they told People back in 2019.

It’s what we could safely call a large family. And the fact that Billy and Ami had five sons before having their first daughter is an interesting little tidbit as well. Needless to say, they are likely more Brown family members coming in the future.
