‘Alaskan Bush People’: Matt Brown Gives Adorable Update on Rescued Baby Birds

by Jon D. B.

The Alaskan Bush People vet’s little rescues are growing up and learning to fly in Matt Brown’s latest adorable update.

Alaskan Bush People‘s Matt Brown has a soft spot for wildlife – especially the babies each spring brings.

Early in May, Matt found a clutch of songbird chicks on the ground, with no nest or parents in sight. He did his best to take care of them, feeding them little worms at first. Parent birds will “chew” and regurgitate their food, so feeding tiny weans solid food is not the way to go. After some research, Matt adjusted for the little ones and has offered several updates to his fans & followers in the process.

Tuesday is no exception, with his latest Instagram post showing off how far his rescue songbird chicks have come.

“Good morning here friends 👋 🌞 🐦 🐦 :) J.3.16,” Matt captions the video. Within, we see the two tiny ones peeping for food as they waddle around their home. They’ve grown considerably since Brown’s last update, and are looking ready to fly the nest!

One of the babies, however, was born with a malformed foot. With Matt allowing the chicks to simulate flying from their nest safely, though, they may do well in the wild yet. Regardless, the Alaskan Bush People star is doing his best to raise the chicks into healthy fledglings no matter what, as he explains below:

*Wildlife tech note: If you come across baby songbirds that have fallen onto the ground, look for their nest. It should be within a few meters of where they fell. Gently place the babies back into their nest if able, and keep an eye out for their parents to return. If this doesn’t work, please contact your local wildlife rescue/rehabilitation center. Residents in areas that do not have a rescue available should call local animal control. Baby birds are incredibly fragile, and require around-the-clock expert care – but will always stand the best chance if reunited with their parents.

Yet nature is unpredictable, and even with the best of care, some babies simply aren’t going to make it. In one of his last updates, Matt let followers know he had lost one of his little rescues over the night.

Though heavily and visibly grieved, Matt took the opportunity to speak to his followers on how “important” it is to “process our feelings.”

Thankfully, the two surviving chicks seem to be thriving as best they can. Best of luck to Alaskan Bush People‘s Matt Brown and his two tiny rescues!
