Alec Baldwin’s daughter Ireland is speaking out in support of her father today. On Thursday, Alec unintentionally shot and killed Halyna Hutchins, the director of cinematography for his upcoming film Rust.
A prop gun misfire caused the deadly accident at Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico. The shooting not only took the life of Hutchins but also injured director Joel Souza. However, according to the Los Angeles Times, Souza was released from the hospital earlier this afternoon.
Ireland Baldwin is thinking about her father, who is still in New Mexico, as he helps authorities investigate the incident. In an Instagram story, the 25-year-old expressed her sadness for both her father and the victims of the shooting.
“My love and support go to Halyna Hutchins’ family and friends. Sending healing thoughts to Joel Souza. And wishing I could hug my dad extra tight today.”
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the accident. According to spokesman Juan Rios, officers are interviewing witnesses. And he added that prop guns should only hold blanks.
As of now, there are no charges. During a press conference, Rios told reporters that Alec Balwin is “a free man.” And he has remained in the state by choice.

This morning, Actor Alec Baldwin broke his silence after news broke that an accident on the set of his upcoming film killed a cinematographer and injured the director.
Baldwin was rehearsing a scene for Rust when his prop gun misfired and killed 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins, the director of cinematography for the film. The incident also injured director Joel Souza. However, he left this hospital this afternoon and is doing well.
