Daniel Baldwin says his brother did nothing wrong in the shooting on the set of Rust. He thinks people are just retaliating against Alec Baldwin because “he’s opinionated” and has deeply held political views. Daniel says the crew members who supposedly checked the gun before giving it to Alec are to blame for the death of Halyna Hutchins.
Last month, Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Hutchins and wounded Rust director Joel Souza when a “cold gun” discharged during a rehearsal. New Mexico police are investigating the shooting, and they have not filed any charges in the incident. Daniel Baldwin said on The Domenick Nati Show this week that the investigation will absolve his older brother.
But he thinks some people are exploiting the situation because Alec Baldwin is an outspoken liberal.
“You know Alec’s got the name though, doesn’t he,” Daniel Baldwin said. “So, let’s go ahead and take Alec for his political views and the many, many wonderful things he’s done for different charities, and people, and his wife, and let’s see if we can’t sensationalize this and go after Alec. …
“This is what he faces because he’s opinionated, and he’s strong-headed, and he has really staunch views on certain things. And those people who don’t like him will take advantage of him and persecute his wife,” Daniel Baldwin concluded. “He’s a target.”
Alec Baldwin frequently mocked former President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live and in the press. And in turn, Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and conservative media members like Candace Owens have seized on the shooting. The ex-president said he believes Alec Baldwin may have purposefully shot Hutchins. And Donald Trump Jr. is selling shirts that joke about the Rust shooting.
Daniel Baldwin Blames Armorer, AD for Shooting on Set of ‘Rust’
Daniel Baldwin believes Halyna Hutchins would still be alive if the Rust crew had followed the proper safety protocols. He said that armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was in charge of the weapons on the set, and assistant director Dave Halls, who checked the gun before giving it to Alec Baldwin, are to blame. Alec Baldwin and Hall both said they didn’t know the gun had a live round in it. And Gutierrez-Reed said she doesn’t know how one could have ended up in the gun.
“The number of protocols on a film when a weapon is being used are pretty vast,” Daniel Baldwin told Domenick Nati. “If it’s done properly, it’s set up so that this can never happen.
“So it’s really, really apparent that Alec has no blame in this at all. Because it would be the equivalent of my going up to the guy that makes the sandwiches and being mad at him that I didn’t know my lines… I know that sounds terrible because a life was lost and another man was hurt.”
