On Sunday, the longtime host of Jeopardy!, Alex Trebek, passed away following a long battle with pancreatic cancer, and now his wife, Jean, has broken her silence to thank fans for their support.

As news broke of the 80-year-old’s death, an outpouring of love and condolences flooded in for the game show host. On Wednesday, Trebek’s wife thanked fans for their overwhelming support during her loss. She posted the heartfelt message on Instagram to recognize all the messages of love for Trebek that she’s received.

In the post, she also shared a touching photo from their wedding day, in addition to her message. The photo shows Jean in her white wedding dress. Likewise, it shows Alex in a white tuxedo as he slides the wedding ring on her finger. The couple tied the knot in 1990 and had two children together, Matthew and Emily.

“My family and I sincerely thank you all for your compassionate messages and generosity. Your expressions have truly touched our hearts. Thank you so very, very much. Many Blessings to all, Jean Trebek,” she wrote.

Alex Trebek Honored By ‘Jeopardy!’ Team

Trebek had been battling pancreatic cancer for more than a year before he died. Reportedly, Trebek passed away “peacefully,” surrounded by his family and friends. The official Twitter account of Jeopardy! confirmed the longtime game show host’s death.

“Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends,” the account wrote. “Thank you, Alex.”

The Jeopardy! team also honored the longtime host of the game show. During Monday’s episode, executive producer Mike Richards paid tribute to Trebek.

“This is an enormous loss for our staff, crew, for his family, for his millions of fans,” Richards said. “He loved this show and everything it stood for… He will forever be an inspiration for his constant desire to learn, his kindness, and for his love of his family.”

Jeopardy! representatives shared details that Trebek pre-taped 35 additional episodes that will air unaltered. Therefore, the game show will run with Trebek as host posthumously until his final episode, which will air on Christmas Day.

However, representatives also said that Trebek’s successor will not be announced right away. In fact, the selection of a new host may take at least a few weeks.
