Sometimes when the mood strikes you, you just have to break out into a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. For “All in the Family” star Rob Reiner, that happened to take place in a pretty unusual location. And, we’re all pretty jealous about it.

It was during a 2018 interview with The Guardian when Reiner talked about singing one of the popular band’s songs while he was filming one of his most beloved movies. That film is “The Princess Bride.” It was during the interview that Reiner talked to reporter Hadley Freeman about his experiences in London.

“So you come from London? You know, I spent time in London when I was making The Princess Bride,” Reiner said. “That was a great experience.”

The success of “The Princess Bride” since its release could make Reiner remember his time in London very fondly. The film debuted in 1987. However, it was a pretty interesting experience that the “All in the Family” actor recalled during the interview.

Apparently, while working on the beloved film Reiner, who directed “The Princess Bride,” was hanging out with actors Mandy Patinkin and Christopher Guest. They were on location shooting and were between scenes. Here’s where Lynyrd Skynyrd comes in.

Rob Reiner Breaks Out Into Song with Actors During ‘The Princess Bride’ Shoot

Here’s what Reiner told The Guardian about what happened:

“We were shooting in Haddon Hall, which was built in 1086, and I’m sitting there with Chris Guest and Mandy Patinkin and we start singing that old rock’n’roll song, “What’s Your Name” (by Lynyrd Skynyrd) in a three-part harmony in this echoey old hall.”

It’s the mid-1980s and he’s in a castle singing Lynyrd Skynyrd. How cool is that? It appears the thought crossed Reiner’s mind.

“I’m thinking: 1,000 years ago did anybody ever think people would be here doing this?” he said. “It was just a surreal moment!”

Mandy Patinkin played Inigo Montoya in “The Princess Bride.” He’s famous for the quote: “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

Christopher Guest played the Six-Fingered Man. This is the character Montoya vowed to kill in order to avenge his father. It’s not a spoiler to say that when Montoya and the Six-Fingered Man cross paths in the film, it is a very memorable moment.

It’s pretty funny to picture the man who played Michael Stivic on “All in the Family” jamming out to a classic Lynyrd Skynyrd song in a castle as he sits next to two men dressed as their characters in “The Princess Bride.”

That would make for a viral video for sure. Also, one can’t help but wonder what made them choose that song. It’s a great choice, for sure. But, who brought it up?
