Think you have a junk pile worthy of “American Pickers”? Here’s how you can get on the show.
If you’re a dedicated “American Pickers” fan, you’ve probably had a moment when you thought, “Oh man, I totally have a shed full of stuff Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz would love!” Or you’ve wondered “Could the stuff in my old barn earn me thousands of dollars?” Well, getting on the show is easier than you may think. Turns out the History Channel posts casting calls pretty frequently. All you have to do is email the network with a little information about what you have to offer.
The website for the casting call states, “Have any items, a collection or junk you want to sell? Don’t quite know what’s in your barn or storage shed? Frank and Mike want to hear from you. The American Pickers will be touring the country again soon. Email us a text description of your junk or collection: If selected, you could be on American Pickers!”
What Kind of Stuff Do You Need to Be On ‘American Pickers?’
If you’re one of the 4.7 million viewers who tune in to watch “American Pickers” every week, then you know that Mike Wolfe loves to dig through old “junk.” He grabs his flashlight and goes picking through items in falling apart barns, dark sheds, and almost abandoned warehouses or stores. But, according to Mary Weaver, a casting associate for Cineflix Productions, which produces “American Pickers” there’s a formula to how the show chooses its picking locations. She said that they want people with “unique antique collections and interesting stories behind them.” Anything they find during their picks is resold through Wolfe’s Antique Archeology stores in Le Claire, Iowa, and Nashville, Tennessee.
What Are the Requirements for Picking Locations?
But before you start sending emails to the producers of “American Pickers,” there are a few things you should consider.
First, the “American Pickers” team only looks at private collections. They won’t visit flea markets, stores, auctions, museums, or any businesses that are open to the public. Secondly, you have to be willing to provide some personal information. In order to be considered, you have to include your name, town and state, phone number, and the location of your collection. Lastly, you have to send a description of your items and some photos to go with.
If you fit the bill on all of the above requirements, then you can contact “American Pickers” via email at ([email protected]). Or you can call the team at (1-855-OLD-RUST or 1-855-653-7878). And if you’d prefer another way, you can contact the show via their Got A Pick Facebook page.
Good luck to all you junk lovers out there. May the best pick win!
