“American Idol” sweethearts Kat Luna and Alex Garrido tied the knot at a barn in Tennessee this week. The couple appeared on the show together. Luna broke the news in an Instagram post yesterday.
From American Idol to the Altar
“OFFICIALLY MR & MRS GEORGIA,” she wrote, referring to her husband’s stage name, Alex Georgia. “I cannot believe that I can finally say I married my best friend! Since the first day I met you I knew you were the one. You are my protector, my superhero, my husband, and most importantly the one I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with! I love you baby let’s do this!”
Luna and Garrido auditioned for “American Idol” together last March. They sang “Shallow” from A Star Is Born with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. They only made it as far as the Hollywood round, but their relationship has already made it to the altar.
The couple wed at the Cactus Creek Barn in Dickson, Tennessee, People reports. They made some concessions to the pandemic, but not many, Luna said.
“COVID didn’t really change our plans that much,” she said. “We already had an intimate wedding idea with a reduced guest list and an outdoor barn venue.”
They pared back their guest list to allow for social distancing, and they offered guests individually wrapped masks and sanitizing wipes.
“Everyone’s safety at our wedding is extremely important to us. We want everyone to have a great time celebrating this amazing day all while being safe,” Luna told People. She explained that everyone in attendance “played a significant role in our lives both individually and together.”
Not Your Typical Miami Couple
Cactus Creek Barn is located alongside a creek. The barn seats 180. It also features covered patios and horses.
“We chose Cactus Creek Barn because we both have always dreamed of having a barn wedding,” Luna said. “Most couples that come from Miami usually go for a beach wedding, but we have always had a different idea of how we wanted our dream wedding to look. We really wanted an atmosphere that made everyone feel like they’re at an intimate celebration in our own home.”
Luna added that dancing was definitely part of their plans for the wedding, regardless of the pandemic.
“We each come from Latino families and dancing is a huge part of our culture,” she said. “We are still working out all the details and figuring out the best way to ensure any of our guests who want to dance can do so safely. If anyone can figure out the best way to dance, it is definitely going to be our families!”
