‘American Pickers’: Danielle Colby Was a Competitive Athlete Before Landing Her Role on the Reality Series

Yes, Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe have always been the faces of “American Pickers.” However, there’s another star on the show, without whom, Fritz and Wolfe would have nowhere to pick. Danielle Colby, also known as the Queen of Rust, runs the team’s Nashville-based antique shop, Antique Archaeology.

She’s the one who finds and organizes all the show’s best picking places. Since her debut on “American Pickers,” Colby has soared to fame as a fan favorite. However, there is far more to Colby than just the show. She’s also an artist, a dancer, an activist, a filmmaker, a mother, and a former competitive athlete.

Danielle Colby Loves Roller Derby

Long before her time on “American Pickers” Colby grew up in Davenport, Iowa. Iowa is also the home to one of Mike Wolfe’s antique shops. It’s in Iowa that Colby and Wolfe first met and the rest is “American Pickers” history.

Obviously, fans of the show know that Danielle Colby is a total badass. And that isn’t just the case on the show. She’s always been a trailblazer. She even played one of the coolest sports out there – roller derby. During her time in the sport, she played for the Big Mouth Mickies. The team won the local championship. However, like the Colby we all know and love, she couldn’t just play the sport. She also managed the entire team! Unfortunately, multiple injuries pushed her to retire from the sport. It’s sad for the roller derby sport but great for all of us “American Pickers” fans.

‘American Pickers’ Star Danielle Colby Also Owns Her Own Burlesque Academy

Roller Derby isn’t the only physical activity Danielle Coby enjoys. She’s also a fan of burlesque dancing. Years ago Colby saw a burlesque show in Chicago. The show featured dancer Angel Cecelia Helene Walker and the standup comedian Margaret Moran Cho. From that moment on, Colby was in love with burlesque. So much so, she formed her own burlesque troupe called Burlesque Le Moustache. The team consists of nine dancers including Colby. Can you guess Colby’s stage name? It’s certainly just as cool as she is! It’s “Dannie Diesel.”

The “American Pickers” star also established her own burlesque academy in Chicago called Dannie Diesel’s Bump ‘n’ Grind Academy. And what’s burlesque without some incredible costumes? Well, Colby is also involved in the fashion world. No, she doesn’t design costumes. But she does own a retro clothing store based in Iowa called 4 Miles 2 Memphis. As an entrepreneur, the “American Pickers” star has experienced both successes and challenges. However, she said that her creative expression and individuality far outweigh any financial successes she has gained.
