‘American Pickers’: Does Mike Wolfe Go Back and Give More Money to Sellers After Buying an Item?

Mike Wolfe isn’t in it for the money. Okay, the “American Pickers” star needs to clear a little bit of profit. He’s running a business, after all. But at the end of the day, much of the value he gets from picking comes from the people he encounters and the stories he’s told.

To that end, Mike Wolfe has been known to cut the original seller in when he sells something for way more than he bought it. The way he sees it, that money is just as much theirs as it is his. And it certainly doesn’t hurt his karma any. But the “American Pickers” star’s generosity is grounded in good business sense, too.

When Mike Wolfe started, most of his business got done via referrals. If someone felt cheated or taken advantage of by a deal, well, that’s a bridge burned. A bridge that otherwise could have led him to even bigger scores down the line.

“I have gone back and given people more money for items I bought from them. My business before the show was based on leads and referrals. Going back and giving the seller more money, that’s good for your mojo,” Mike Wolfe told Southeastern Antiquing and Collecting Magazine in 2011.

It stands to reason that this policy would be even more important when “American Pickers” took off on television. Sellers are most likely going to see what becomes of whatever items Mike bought from them. In the interest of keeping those collectors friendly and willing to give him a lead or two, the least Wolfe can do is give them a share of profits they didn’t realize they were sitting on.

Mike Wolfe and Danielle Colby are Still Hard at Work on ‘American Pickers’

Despite all of the recent drama, Mike Wolfe and his longtime associate, Danielle Colby, are back on the road. She posted a photo of the two on Instagram with a caption that seemed to raise even more questions amongst fans.

Further, it was announced that there would be no new episode of “American Pickers” airing on the History Channel tonight. That development is reportedly unrelated to the behind-the-scenes drama we’ve been following over the past few weeks.

“I’m proud of how you have handled the last 12 years and look forward to many more years of rolling around this big blue marble together. I’m truly saddened for the loss of Frank on the show, I’m incredibly sad for his struggles. I have personally watched everything over the last decade. I have many thoughts but won’t speak them as they are only my my thoughts, not gospel,” part of the post’s caption read.
