‘American Pickers’ Fans Threaten to Boycott the Show in Wake of Frank Fritz’s Departure

by Jacklyn Krol

American Pickers fans are not happy with the departure of Frank Fritz.

Most fans think of Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz together discovering antiquities. Without Fritz, most seem to believe that the show isn’t as good as the pair together. Some have even begun to boycott the show entirely.

When The History Channel shared a teaser of the upcoming episode on social media, fans shared their anger.

“It’s not worth watching without Frank. Last few weeks I was hoping it would be the episode that he returns,” a user tweeted. Another added, “Now we know, he’s not returning so I’m not watching anymore.”

“Sucks how you have binned Frank, thought you guys were like brothers. Boycotting this show,” a former fan wrote.

Although some have boycotted it, the new episode has done really well in terms of ratings. New episodes of the show have been raking in roughly 1.3 million viewers. While Fritz was on the show, approximately 1.28 million viewers tuned in. Were people curious to see it without Fritz? Is it because some like it better without him? Only time will tell.

Fritz’s final appearance was in Season 21. The episode aired in March 2020 and was titled “Burlesque Queen.”

‘American Pickers’ Controversy

So what exactly happened to the American Pickers duo?

Fritz had to leave the show briefly for back surgery and he also went to rehab. He has been sober from alcohol for eleven months. He also lost sixty-five pounds and has been trying to better himself.

He told The Sun that he would love to come back to the show.

“I would like to come back to the show. I was doing it for 11 years. I’m 100 percent recovered now and I’m ready to roll and go back on the show,” he said.

According to Frank, a showrunner on the show wished him a happy birthday and said that the higher-ups didn’t make a decision regarding his potential return. Additionally, Mike wrote an Instagram post bidding farewell to his former co-host. Though Fritz said that he hasn’t spoken to Wolfe in two years. He never even contacted him about an update on his health and recovery. Fritz wouldn’t go into detail about their feud but he did reveal that there was tension regarding the spotlight.

“The show is tilted towards him 1,000 percent. I can’t even bend that far down to show you how much,” Fritz told the outlet.

Although he wants to return, he did admit that it would be hard to return to the show after not speaking to Wolfe for so long. Fritz theorized that Wolfe would get his brother Robbie to replace his role.

At the end of the day, Frank isn’t sure what happened to his role on the show.

“I don’t know if they can do it cheaper without having me on there or what the situation is,” he said.
