‘American Pickers’ Ex-Star Frank Fritz Explains How He Got Sober and Lost 65 Pounds

by Jacklyn Krol

American Pickers alum Frank Fritz revealed how he got sober and lost weight.

Fritz hasn’t appeared on the History Channel series since March 2020. He recently suffered from back troubles. Fans will recall that he did the majority of the heavy lifting on the show, and it caught up with him. He underwent surgery to put two rods in his spine. The procedure left him with 185 stitches and a lot of recovery time. However, he is now back to normal.

During the time away from the spotlight, he worked on his overall health. He is now almost unrecognizable as he lost sixty-five pounds.

“Not drinking helps with weight loss because when you drink you eat. I’m not dieting,” he revealed to The Sun. “I was drinking a little bit too, but that didn’t work out either. I haven’t had a drink in almost nine, ten months.”

He added that it would have been a year but he had one slip up for four hours.

A Return To ‘American Pickers’?

What is the future for American Pickers? Mike Wolfe recently announced his former co-host’s departure on his social media accounts. However, Frank does want to return to the show.

“I would like to come back to the show. I was doing it for 11 years. I’m 100 percent recovered now and I’m ready to roll and go back on the show,” he told the outlet.

Frank has spoken to the network about him but they “talk out both sides of their mouth.” The showrunner said he wants him back but hasn’t heard from the higher-ups. He wants to return both for his passion and the fans.

The former American Pickers star has a couple of theories on why they haven’t been returning his calls.

“I don’t know if they can do it cheaper without having me on there or what the situation is,” he theorized. Frank added that he hasn’t spoken to Mike in two years, he never asked for a health update. He didn’t reveal the exact reason behind their feud but he did note that there was tension among them over fame.

“The show is tilted towards him 1,000 percent. I can’t even bend that far down to show you how much,” Frank said. He compared Wolfe to Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and a backing band. Although he would like to return, he believes it would be hard to work with Wolfe after not speaking for so long. He concluded that Wolfe is most likely getting his brother Robbie to replace him.
