American Pickers star Frank Fritz is officially opening up about his long-term battle with chronic inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s.
During his interview with The Sun, the American Pickers co-host reveals that he has battled Crohn’s for nearly 40 years. “America has been talking about Crohn’s since 1933, but we have not been able to figure what brings on the inflammation of the digestive system.”
Fritz also says that the disease, which he refers to as being “like a dragon,” doesn’t have a cure. He admits that every day is a “crap” shoot. “One day I could have a double chimichanga with hot sauce pouring out of it and have no problem,” the American Pickers star explains. “Another day, I could have a piece of toast with some scrambled eggs and have a flare-up.”
Frank then says he hasn’t had any flare-ups recently.
Frank Fritz Talks Incredible Weight Loss
Frank Fritz also reveals how he lost 65 pounds in the past year. “The weight loss is me watching what I’m eating so I can keep my disease under control the best I can. I’m just eating healthy.”
Fritz explains that not drinking helps with weight loss as well. “I was drinking a little bit too, but that didn’t work out either. I haven’t had a drink in almost nine, ten months,” the American Pickers co-host says, but admits that it would have been a year but he had one slip up.
Frank Fitz Discusses Major Back Surgery That Prevent Him From Returning to ‘American Pickers’
Also during his interview with the Sun, American Pickers star Frank Fritz reveals a major back surgery has prevented him from returning to the hit series. He hasn’t been seen on the show since March 2020.
“I had a couple of rods put in there,” the American Pickers co-host states about his back. He reveals the injury that led to the surgery was caused by lifting things on the show. Fritz also admits it has been hurting for a long, long time. “I’m talking months and months and months.”
The American Pickers star also says that his doctors stated that bones were going up the middle of his spine. “[The doctors] put a couple of big rods up the middle of the spin. I had to get 185 stitches and two rods in my back.”
Frank states that despite having major back surgery, he can actually lift and describes his back as “perfect.”
Frank admits that he has not been picking much during his time off American Pickers. “I’ve been working on a couple of motorcycles, but that’s about it,” Fritz states. He adds that he was in the Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota last year.
