‘American Pickers’: Frank Fritz Revealed He Went To Rehab Before Being Fired from the Show

Everyone knows Frank Fritz from his time on American Pickers, but not everyone knows the backstory behind why he was fired from the show.

Frank Fritz starred alongside Mike Wolfe on American Pickers. The two would travel around the country, looking to buy up old antiques and collectibles to resell them. However, earlier this month, The History Channel announced that Fritz was no longer going to be involved in the show. That left many fans to question what was going on.

According to Fritz himself, he had a drinking problem. He also had family members before him who battled the same demons. He explained as much in a recent interview with The U.S. Sun.

“I didn’t like drinking anymore,” he said. “My mom was an alcoholic and she died five years ago and it was alcohol-related. My grandfather was an alcoholic and he died. That didn’t sit well with me.”

So the American Pickers star made his way to rehab. And while that can just be a formality for some addicts, Fritz says he was there on strictly business.

“They really give you a lot of one-on-one time. I read 12 self-help books while I was there — I didn’t f**k around, I really got into it. Went there to learn and get the most out of it that I possibly could,” he explained. “I had a great time there and I helped other people who were having problems too. It’s one of the best things that have happened to me.”

‘American Pickers’ Star Had a Goal to Get ‘One Thing Out of One Person’

The goal he set for himself — although it sounds simple — was to take one piece of advice from everyone he talked to. Now that he’s stopped drinking, he has a sponsor to hold him accountable.

“I sit back and listen and if I get one thing out of one person, that’s enough. I have a couple of sponsors and I’m sponsoring people too.”

Sure sounds like a man who knows he messed up and wants to make things right. Fritz told the outlet that he doesn’t have any plans to drink again.

“I don’t think I’ll ever drink again because I don’t like the feeling anymore and some of the dumb things that I did,” the American Picker star added. “I’m feeling really good. Life is good and I’d like to get back into the swing of things. I wish I had done it five years ago, I would have been a different person.”

If only he could have done that years ago, he might still have his job on the popular show. It’s something he dearly misses, and probably deeply regrets.

“It was the best thing for me and I wish I had done it sooner or I wouldn’t be in the position that I am right now,” he concluded. “I’d still like to get back to my job, I miss my friends and my people being on the road and meeting all those different characters.”
