American Pickers has been on the air for over a decade. Over the course of its run, the show has produced a whopping 21 full seasons and it’s still going strong. The 22nd season of the show kicked off this year. However, Frank Fritz was not in the latest episodes. In fact, he wasn’t in the final eight episodes of the 21st season. Sure, it’s still fun to watch Mike dig through garages and storage buildings for long-forgotten treasures. However, it just isn’t the same without Frank. Their chemistry really drove the show.
Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and Danielle Colby-Cushman started American Pickers back in 2009. Over the years, Frank was in 303 episodes. However, he was credited in 306, according to his IMDb page. The final episode featuring Frank was season 21 episode 13, “Burlesque Queen.” That episode aired on March 2, 2020.
Episodes of American Pickers are filmed well in advance. So, Frank Fritz has been out for longer than it seems. However, fans are still wondering why he left. Furthermore, other fans wonder if the show can really go on without him. Unfortunately, we only have the answer to one of those questions and it’s not an easy one to swallow.
Why Frank Fritz Left American Pickers
To many fans, it looked like Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz were best buds. They traveled the country and dug out some of the coolest treasures imaginable. At the same time, they worked as a team and had plenty of laughs and good-natured ribbing. However, it looks like they might have just been work buddies.
Some fans know that Frank Fritz had a back injury that led to surgery. As a result, he has been out of commission for a while. At the same time, the pandemic has made traveling around the country unattractive for many Americans, including pickers. However, that isn’t the only reason that Frank has opted to leave the show.
Frank Fritz gave The Sun an interview earlier this week. In that interview, he discussed his reasons for leaving American Pickers.
“I haven’t talked to Mike in two years,” Fritz told the publication. “He knew my back was messed up, but he didn’t call me up and ask how I was doing. That’s just how it is.” So, that alone would be enough to cause some hurt feelings and resentment. However, it goes a little deeper than that.
Frank Fritz went on to say that American Pickers is “tilted towards [Wolfe] 1000 percent,” however, that doesn’t bother him too much. He said he understands his former position on the show. “That’s fine. It’s like you’ve got Aerosmith and there’s Steven Tyler,” Fritz said, “He’s the frontman.”
