There’s no doubt that “American Pickers” star Mike Wolfe has an eye for authentic vintage objects and antiques. However, a peek inside of the star’s $2 million Tennessee estate shows us he is also an accomplished interior designer. Check it out below.
Amid divorce proceedings, The Sun revealed Mike Wolfe’s ex-wife Jodi and their 9-year-old daughter, Charlie Faeth Wolfe reside at the estate.
During the exclusive, Wolfe shared his inspiration from his unique and vintage finds. He also shared with fans the best way to incorporate old junk with new, modern architecture and design. The Sun also revealed the cost, era, and purpose for some of Wolfe’s beloved antiques featured within the tour.
One prime example of Wolfe’s more expensive features is an old gas pump. According to the news outlet, Wolfe purchased the pump for $800. Prior, it had sat in the back of a semi-trailer for over 20 years. It appears the picker displayed the pump as a very expensive lawn ornament on the couple’s spring-fed creek-covered property.
Throughout the video, we also get an intimate look at some of the “American Pickers” star’s vintage light fixtures. The lights themselves add just the right amount of a bygone era to the rather modernly constructed home. Additionally, because of the home’s modern architectural features, many of the rooms within sport an almost exclusively modern appeal.
A small reading nook in the home boasts a plaid patterned chair and an old-timey telephone. Although Wolfe stated, “I’m still on the search for the perfect phone. This one’s vintage but I want an even older one.”
Additionally, the star’s bathroom is exclusively modern so Wolfe had to improvise in giving the bathroom a more antique appeal. He shared he simply collected and framed an antique Stetson ad. Then, he hung it up and displayed ex-wife Jodi’s hats on antique millinery stands.
“Just one layer of vintage accessories is all it takes to give a new room old soul,” Wolfe claimed.
‘American Pickers’ Mike Wolfe Penned the ‘Value of Junk’
Mike Wolfe’s tour of his $2 million home proves that he is a major collector both on and off the screen of “American Pickers.” However, the star also previously met with a woman several years ago who helped him determine the true “value of junk.”
In a 2015 blog post, Wolfe shared insight from a meeting with a Portuguese woman he met while abroad. He shared that the woman initially saw American-made goods as trash. Though if you are American-born and bred, many may vow to disagree. But that’s beside the point.
Because of the infancy of America’s history, Wolfe shared that the Portuguese woman felt strongly at first in her opinion as her country’s history delves so much deeper in time.
Following the meeting, the “American Pickers” star shared what the woman meant exactly.
“When I first got here, I didn’t understand it,” she said. “Where I come from, everything is so old, so I saw something here that was 100 years, 150 years…I thought, well, it’s basically just junk.” However, over time, the woman learned, “It’s not the time spent, it’s what’s accomplished in a little time, and for that, what happened in America is unique.
