American Pickers likes to keep things on the down-low when they visit different cities. That’s one reason Mike Wolfe doesn’t mention cities.
Wolfe talked with the Rockford Register Star back in 2011 about keeping certain things secret…like where they are at the moment.
Register Star columnist Georgette Braun asked Wolfe why they don’t name the city they are in when looking for antiques and collectibles.
“Six million people watch this show,” Wolfe said. “We don’t want people bothered.”
That sounds practical as American Pickers looks to keep bringing so many different types of things to their audience’s attention.
It remains one of the most popular shows on the History Channel. Recently, the channel devoted time there to an American Pickers marathon. They aired old episodes that included Wolfe and his former co-star, Frank Fritz.
‘American Pickers’ Star Recalled Time He Was Held at Gunpoint
Obviously, Wolfe has run into different situations over the years on American Pickers. It just so happens that one of those times involved him facing gunpoint.
Wolfe talked about how it all went down in a 2011 interview with the Southeastern Antiquing and Collecting Magazine.
“One time, a guy opened the door and stuck a pistol in my face,” Wolfe said. “All I could think of to say was, ‘Hey is that [pistol] for sale?’ I didn’t buy anything there. I haven’t had too many of those experiences. {And] I can probably count on my hand how many times I have been run off.”
Wolfe, thankfully, hasn’t encountered any other gunpoint situations after that one. He’ll be keeping his eyes wide open for those types of situations, though.
The show itself has changed some since 2011, specifically around the loss of co-host Frank Fritz. There will not be a new episode of American Pickers on Monday, Aug. 2. Regular viewers will be disappointed by that not happening.
The aforementioned History Channel marathon lets fans recall those old days when Fritz and Wolfe got along together. Fritz left near the end of the last season and will not return.
Danielle Colby Offers Some Words On Wolfe-Fritz Separation
Danielle Colby of American Pickers offered some words about what appears to be a separation between Wolfe and Fritz.
“Out on the road again with my best friend and my big brother whose I support fully and stand behind,” Colby said in a Monday afternoon post on Instagram. “Thank you for the last decade of advocacy towards myself and others on set.”
The “Queen of Rust” had some thoughts to pass along Fritz’s way.
“I’m truly saddened for the loss of Frank on the show,” the History Channel star said. “I’m incredibly sad for his struggles. I have personally watched everything over the last decade.”
