‘American Pickers’: Why Mike Wolfe ‘Can’t Watch’ Early Episodes with Him and Frank Fritz

by Samantha Whidden

He comes off as pretty confident when in front of the cameras, but even American Pickers host Mike Wolfe admits that he hasn’t always been so great when it comes to being in the spotlight.

During a 2019 interview with the Vegas Film Critic, the American Pickers star stated he has a rough time watch the early seasons of the show.

“We have been very blessed. Frank [Fritz] and I try to make people feel very comfortable. We’re filming with people who have never been on camera before, so all of a sudden, there’s 13 people in their space and we’re just talking to them.”

The American Pickers host also says that he and his former co-host try to get people to relax, let go and just feel natural. But it’s actually pretty difficult.

“When Frank and I first started this, we were never on camera before. It was really hard for us. I look at seasons 1, 2, and 3. I can’t watch that stuff. I can’t watch myself on camera.”

Wolfe has been on American Pickers since its debut in January 2010. The show now has a total of 22 seasons and 325 episodes.

‘American Pickers’ Experiences Some Drama As Co-Host Frank Fritz Officially Exits

At the end of July, the now-former American Pickers co-host Frank Fritz revealed in an interview with The Sun that not only has he involuntarily exited the reality show, but he also hasn’t spoken to Wolfe in two years.

“[Mike] knew my back was messed up, but he didn’t call me up and ask how I was doing,” Fritz declared. He also said that the show has tilted towards Wolfe 1,000 percent. “I can’t even bend that far down to show you how much.”

In 2020, Fritz stepped back from American Pickers after he injured his back and had to have surgery. He also sought help for his alcohol issues. He said he thinks Wolfe wants his brother, Robbie, to replace him and that’s why there hasn’t been any communication.

“I don’t know why he’s behaving like that towards me. You couldn’t just stick two people in a van and get the chemistry you get from me and Mike.”

Following his first interview, Fritz told The Sun he’s interested in having his own show and his American Pickers fans are all for it. “Thousands of people want me back, they’ve got a petition to get back on the show. I could go either way and find a new show. Have something new and have just as much fun. That’s what it’s all about.”

After the news broke about Fritz’s removal from American Pickers, Mike Wolfe addressed the situation through an Instagram post.

“The journey that Frank, Dani [Colby], and I started back in 2009, like all of life, has come with its highs and lows, blessings and challenges, but it has also been the most rewarding.”
