Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz go way back. Since elementary school, the “American Pickers” stars have known each other, and they have been on the hunt for valuable antiques ever since. But when they first started the show in 2010, they were far from veteran television personalities. In fact, Mike Wolfe has trouble watching some of those early episodes because of how inexperienced they were.

Two years ago feels like an eternity considering all that has happened in the world of “American Pickers.” Two years, however, is the amount of time Frank Fritz claims it has been since speaking with Mike Wolfe. And it’s also coming up on how long it has been since fans have seen Fritz on the show.

Now, it’s been made public that Wolfe and Fritz have had a falling out. And, even worse for fans, that Fritz likely won’t be returning to the show. But back in 2019, none of that had happened yet. At least, it hadn’t as far as the public is concerned. Around that time, Mike Wolfe gave an interview to a YouTube channel called Vegas Film Critic. He talked with Jeffrey K. Howard about how difficult it is for him to watch his younger self on camera.

“You know, when Frank and I first started this we were never on camera before. And it was really hard for us. I look at Season 1, and 2, and 3, and I can’t watch that stuff. I can’t watch myself on camera because it was just so different, you know? I’m different on camera now. I feel like I’m the same person. But my thoughts are a little bit slower I guess,” Wolfe said in the interview.

Mike Wolfe Had Kind Words to Say About His ‘American Pickers’ Co-Star in 2019

Considering all of the recent drama, it’s hard to believe that the relationship between Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz was still apparently intact just a few years ago.

The pair truly have been friends since elementary school, meeting for the first time in eighth grade. And it’s not just Mike with whom he shares a bond. Fans of “American Pickers” will know Mike’s brother, Robbie. He has appeared in dozens of episodes over the years. And the connection between Fritz and the Wolfes ran so deeply that Fritz was named godfather to two of Robbie Wolfe’s daughters.

“Yeah, we’ve known each other since eighth grade. My brother has five kids, and Frank is the godfather to his twin girls. And he’s been like family to us. You know, I can’t say that neither of us has changed. We both have changed obviously, with the experience that we’ve gone through together. But it’s nice to have gone through the experience together,” Wolfe continued.

The words sound so foreign compared to the types of things we’ve heard from Frank Fritz recently. Apparently, the two haven’t even been on speaking terms over the last two years.
