Following contestant Jonathan Goodwin’s accident on stage, the “Extreme” America’s Got Talent spinoff series is taking a break from production to ensure the health and safety of its team. Previously, on Thursday, the daredevil stuntman became injured upon performing his act during rehearsal, sending him to the hospital for further treatment of his injuries.

“He was responsive and was immediately taken to the hospital where he is continuing to receive medical care,” a spokesperson for the show told Today on Friday. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family as we await further updates on his condition.”

Now, the America’s Got Talent team has released another statement that discussed its plans to pause filming.

“In order to focus on the wellbeing of our crew, we will be temporarily pausing production on ‘America’s Got Talent: Extreme’ and will resume the last few days of filming at a later date. The health and safety of our cast and crew continue to be our priority.”

So far, there is no update on Goodwin’s condition. The show and NBCUniversal continue to send their regards to the family of the America’s Got Talent: Extreme contestant. Goodwin had appeared on the parent series in Season 15, making it as far as the semi-finals. Now that he has sustained injuries, it is unclear if he will return to the competition.

The Act That Sent the ‘America’s Got Talent’ Contestant to the Hospital

As a stuntman, Goodwin’s acts are going to be risky by nature. The fact that the America’s Got Talent star puts his own fate in danger for the sake of entertainment is the reason he has become such a successful performer. Unfortunately, one small mistake can easily turn a performance from thrilling to horrific, as had occurred last week.

Goodwin’s act was no doubt one of the most dangerous the cast has ever seen. During rehearsal, the America’s Got Talent team placed Goodwin in a straight jacket and hung him from a wire between two suspended cars. Once Goodwin freed himself from his bindings, the cars would crash into each other. In theory, he would dodge the cars barreling towards him and drop 70 feet onto a mattress on the ground.

However, it seemed that there was an issue with the timing of the cars. In a video that surfaced after the incident, it was clear that Goodwin did not yet free himself from the jacket or the wire before the cars released. As a result, the cars crashed into the contestant, causing a fiery explosion. Goodwin then fell to the ground, sustaining severe injuries.

Quickly after, medical teams rushed the America’s Got Talent contestant to the hospital where he underwent surgery immediately.
