Being The Ricardos star Nicole Kidman just showed off some eye-catching photos from behind the scenes of a recent photoshoot for Marie Claire. Kidman is set to play the Hollywood icon Lucille Ball alongside Javier Bardem, who will play Ball’s husband Desi Arnaz.
“Behind-the-scenes,” Kidman wrote in the caption for the post.
Nicole Kidman is known for her work across multiple highly regarded films and series. She’s starred in films and shows such as Big Little Lies, The Undoing, Eyes Wide Shut, and Moulin Rouge! Still, Being the Ricardos may be her biggest challenge yet.
Nicole Kidman Feeling the Pressure to Play Lucille Ball in ‘Being the Ricardos’
It’s not easy playing a Hollywood legend. Fans of Lucille Ball were quick to judge the casting choice of Nicole Kidman for the role, and the pressure is certainly on. Many expressed that Kidman shouldn’t play Ball because she’s known for her dramatic roles. Though Lucille Ball was a comedian, this film will be far from a comedy.
It’ll follow a week in the life of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz as they work on I Love Lucy all while navigating their tumultuous marriage. The film is directed by Aaron Sorkin. Kidman seriously admires Lucille Ball and is excited to take on the role.
“She was a trailblazer. She formed her production company. Desi was Cuban, and she had to fight to get him on the show. They had just so many things in their marriage that are so relevant today…” she told Variety.
Lucille Ball’s Daughter Loved Nicole Kidman’s Work
And while Kidman may have some skeptics, Lucille Ball’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, has always been on her side. Arnaz has worked closely as a consultant for the film and has supported Kidman from the get go. Now, she’s gotten to see a couple of clips of Kidman in the film.
“Nicole did a spectacular job,” Arnaz told Town and Country. “The two days that I watched, though, were both little flashbacks, so she was playing Lucy in the late ’30s and mid-’40s. She wasn’t Lucy of Lucy Ricardo fame yet, so it was a trifle different. And I know she meant it to be, so it could feel different. But boy, what she did was astounding. She’s got such poise and class.”
On top of Being the Ricardos, Nicole Kidman also just starred in Nine Perfect Strangers. Just like Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers is based off a novel by Liane Moriarty. It follows a group of strangers at a boutique health and wellness retreat with no idea what’s coming their way.
Nine Perfect Strangers is out now, but you’ll have to wait a while to catch Being the Ricardos. No release date has been set yet, but filming started last March.
