Betty White Reveals Her Favorite Food and It’s an American Past Time

by Leanne Stahulak

There’s almost no name more iconic in American households than Betty White. The 99-year-old actress continues to dazzle on-screen, as well as in different voice-acting roles.

Based on her many roles over the years, fans might think they know the legendary actress well. But White opened up about some more personal fun facts about her in a 2015 interview with Oprah Winfrey. One of the questions the host asked was a common ice-breaker: “Do you have a favorite meal?”

“Hot dogs and french fries,” Betty White replied. Then, she jokingly added, “As you can tell, I’m a health nut.”

And so we have an iconic American meal to go with an iconic American actress. Is there anything more fitting?

Though for eating all those hot dogs and french fries, Betty White’s stayed remarkably healthy over the years (knock on wood). At 99, she’s still living her best life as safely as she can due to the pandemic. Earlier this year, before her birthday in January, White talked to People magazine about what keeps her going.

“A sense of humor,” she said. “Don’t take yourself too seriously. You can lie to others — not that I would — but you cannot lie to yourself.”

In terms of her health, White didn’t ‘fess up to any overly concerning conditions. “I am blessed with good health,” she said, “so turning 99 is no different than turning 98.”

The actress also shared her biggest piece of advice for staying healthy at her age.

“Again, having a sense of humor,” she said. “Just looking at the positive side and not dwelling on the downside. Takes up too much energy being negative. Also having a good agent who keeps me busy all the time.”

What Does Betty White Look Forward to as she Approaches Her 100th Birthday?

This past year, Betty White celebrated her 99th birthday in a more lowkey fashion. She’s tried to keep safe during the pandemic, keeping to her house and limiting her interactions. But once it’s over, White can’t wait to start “visiting with close friends and bringing food to my animal friends.”

White’s always been extremely involved in animal charities and organizations. She’s been a longtime supporter of Monterey Bay Aquarium, Wildlife Learning Center, the Los Angeles Zoo, and Actors and Others for Animals. When talking to Oprah Winfrey in that 2015 interview, the actress confessed that her favorite gift to give is money to her various animal organizations.

She loves animals so much that she once wanted to be a forest ranger. But at the time, women weren’t allowed to be forest rangers, so she turned her attention to radio and television instead. Although, back when Betty White turned 88 in 2010, the U.S. Forest Service did make her an honorary forest ranger.
