After only a couple of weeks into the return of “Big Sky” for the remainder of season one, the show announced it is getting a second season.
The show took a midseason break after leaving fans with a whirlwind episode on February 16. Then “Big Sky” came back on April 13.
The show has come back with a whole new plot and persona to it. There is a huge ensemble of guest stars that made an appearance in the past few weeks. Characters like Jenny, Cassie, Ronald, and Jerrie are a few familiar faces amongst a crowd of new, dramatic characters.
‘Big Sky’ Renewed for Season Two
According to TVLine, the show has been confirmed for even more dramatic twists during a second season. Throughout its current 13 episodes, the show has had an average of 3.7 million viewers and 0.6 in ratings. But viewership has dropped in recent episodes. Its last episode had 2.6 mil viewers and 0.3 in ratings. Amongst many other ABC dramas, “Big Sky” is seated at No. 4 in ratings. It is behind “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Station 19,” and “The Good Doctor.”
You can watch the Montana-based crime thriller on ABC every Tuesday at 10/9 CT. Otherwise, the show is also available to stream the next day on Hulu. The show’s season finale will be on May 18.
The series executive producer, Elwood Reid, will actually be taking over as the showrunner during the second season. He is well-known for his work on “The Chi,” “The Bridge,” “Hawaii Five-O,” and “Barkskins.” He is taking over for the show’s creator, David E. Kelley, known for dramas like “Big Little Lies.”
ABC Renews Lineup
According to Variety, ABC is slated to renew most of its current lineups instead of going through the process of picking up new shows. This is partially due to the effects of the pandemic on the entertainment business. Other returning dramas are “Station 11,” “Rebel,” “The Rookie,” and “A Million Little Things.”
Since season one of the show had a bit of an identity change, there’s no telling what’s in store for the second season of “Big Sky.” While many actors were added on as guest stars, they may soon become recurring characters. That all depends on who manages to stay alive, since the show is trademarked with many unexpected deaths. In fact, the show started off with a bang when it killed off Ryan Phillippe as Cody Hoyt at the end of the first episode.
However, Michelle Forbes, Britt Robertson, Michael Raymond-James, Ryan Dorsey, and Omar Metwally all stopped in for the rest of season one. Depending on how the show ends the first season in the next two weeks, some of these characters may again appear in season two.
