Billy Ray Cyrus Still Has the ‘Horses in the Back’ in Hilarious New Photo

Billy Ray Cyrus is giving a Twitter nod to a popular meme with a quirky new photo.

“Still got the #HorsesInTheBack!” he tweeted Tuesday. “Lookin’ forward to the @BBMAs [Billboard Music Awards] tomorrow!”

The hashtag is a reference to the Lil Nas X song “Old Town Road (I Got Horses in the Back).” The song spawned a meme and even parodies that circulated on social media.

Cyrus put in an appearance on a remix of the song in 2019. He sang the first hook, which goes: “I’m gonna take my horse to the old town road/ I’m gonna ride ’til I can’t no more.” And he added a later verse about jewelry, cars, and living the easy life.

This isn’t the first time Cyrus has used the hashtag. In 2019, he also gave a nod to the meme with a tweet about MTV Video Music Awards nominations. “Thank you for the #VMA nominations!!!” he tweeted then. “We got the #HorsesInTheBack!”

The Billboard Music Awards were originally scheduled to broadcast live from Las Vegas on April 29.

“In accordance with the current guidelines set forth by national and local health officials and in order to ensure the health and safety of our artists, fans, guests and staff – we are postponing the Billboard Music Awards,” the awards show organizers said at the time. “For more than two decades, the Billboard Music Awards has honored the best in music based on the Billboard charts, and we look forward to celebrating the incredible artists who topped those charts over the last year.”

The rescheduled date of this year’s awards is October 14. The show will air on NBC, and Kelly Clarkson will host.
