Bindi Irwin Celebrates ‘World Wombat Day’ With the Adorable Animals

Raise your hand if you Googled “wombats” and immediately started making plans to visit Australia. For all the attention given to the deadly and venomous creatures inhabiting the island nation, there are plenty of adorable ones too. Wombats are easily near the top of that list. Bindi Irwin is giving them the attention they deserve with a World Wombat Day Instagram post.

We’ll be honest. World Wombat Day wasn’t marked on our calendars. It’s an unofficial Australian observance falling on October 22 each year since 2005. But it’s only appropriate that the Irwin family be the ones to bring it to our attention.

Wombats are marsupials not too distant from koalas. We can see the resemblance. The little furry creatures look like a cross between bears, dogs, and groundhogs. Per Today in Conversation, wombats are burrowing animals. They have claws and powerful front legs for digging. And just when we thought we knew everything there was to know about wombats; we found out that their scat is cube-shaped. Consider our minds blown.

It’s no wonder why Bindi Irwin and her mom posed for a photo with one of the little guys. Needless to say, adorable animals and the internet go together like peanut butter and jelly. Bindi Irwin’s followers were understandably excited by the heartwarming photos.

“Omgg so adorable!!! I want to snuggle this wombat!!” one Instagram user replied.

“What a cute chunk-a-monk wombatty cutie poo!!!!” another added. You get the gist. There were plenty more comments along the same lines.

Bindi Irwin’s Loving Life As New Mama to Grace Warrior Irwin

Speaking of adorable… In March, Bindi Irwin gave birth to her daughter Grace Warrior Irwin. Since then, the two have been almost inseparable. Bindi has been gracious enough to let her fans follow along as she and Chandler Powell start their family.

Together, the three are nearly as adorable as the wombats Bindi’s celebrating this week. What’s more, Grace Warrior is taking after her late grandpa.

“This sweetheart has been watching her ‘Grandpa Crocodile’ on the projector at our camp here on the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve. She lights up when she sees him on screen. I wish with all my heart that Dad could hug my beautiful girl. It’s been 15 years since he passed away. I hold on to the thought that he’s her guardian angel now, watching over the most special part of my life, Grace Warrior,” Bindi Irwin wrote in a September Instagram post.

The family of conservationists continues to entertain with their show “Crikey! It’s the Irwins.” A fourth season of the show has yet to be announced. But rest assured, Outsider has you covered if/when the news breaks.
