Bindi Sue Irwin has big news for her fellow conservationists. The Australia Zoo has successfully bred and hatched cassowary chicks—one of Australia’s most endangered birds.

“We are tremendously excited to share that our cassowaries, Kevin and Babinda, are parents to THREE chicks!” Irwin wrote on Instagram.

The cassowary is a flightless bird that is native to Australia. In recent decades, massive land clearings have been destroying its natural habitat. As a result, that deforestation mixed with natural predators has placed the bird on the Endangered Species list.

According to Bindi Sue Irwin, the Australia Zoo has been trying—unsuccessfully—to repopulate the bird for three decades. And it has finally done it. Because on Friday, the zoo welcomed the three new feathered treasures.

“Our breeding program is vital to helping this at-risk species,” she added. “Congratulations to our entire Zoo Crew. Beyond proud.”

Bindi Sue Irwin Shares the Story of Ellen the Pelican

Bindi Sue Irwin, daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter, is following in her father’s footsteps. The world-famous conversationalist has dedicated her life to rescuing and repopulating animals across the globe. And a few months ago, she proved that once again.

“Meet Ellen, a gorgeous pelican who was found with a metal hook and fishing line lodged in her mouth,” she told her Instagram followers on September 14th.

When Irwin brought the distressed bird to the Australia Zoo, a veterinarian from the WildLife Hospital was able to “carefully extract” the line and hook from Ellen’s mouth.

Luckily, Ellen “did not sustain” any major injuries. And once she feels better, the staff will be able to return the pelican “back to her natural habitat.”

But until she’s ready to go home, “this sweet girl is now resting in the Bird’s ICU.”

There are Lots of New ‘Projects’ in Store For Australia Zoogoers

Bindi Sue Irwin is the official face of the Austalia Zoo. And in a recent Instagram post, she teased that some new and exciting things are going on behind the scenes of the world-famous conservation center.

We don’t know exactly what the Australia Zoo has in store for us. But whatever it is, it’s making Irwin a “tired mama.”

“Early morning FaceTime with Chandler’s sweet family,” Irwin wrote alongside an adorable picture. “Lots of busy & exciting Australia Zoo projects on the horizon. Grace is now taking her morning nap. Happy mama. Tired mama. Grateful for all the love in my life. Also excited for the cup of coffee my husband is making me.”
