Country star and “The Voice” coach Blake Shelton says the day he proposed to fellow coach Gwen Stefani is basically one big happy blur in his mind.
In a new interview with Access Hollywood, Shelton recounted his memories of that day as best he could reconstruct them.
“It’s kind of a blur, honestly,” Shelton told the show. “I remember after I asked her, there was some crying and things. And Gwen’s oldest son, Kingston, was sitting right next to us when this happened, and Gwen at one moment said, ‘Wait a minute, did I answer you? Did I say yes out loud?’ And even I was wondering.”
“And Kingston said, ‘Mom, yeah you did. I heard you say ‘Yes.’ You did,’” Shelton said. “So I don’t know how long it took, but that’s how it happened.”
Blake Shelton Wouldn’t Trade Where He Is Now for Anything
Shelton’s life has been a bit of a rollercoaster the past six years or so. He and Stefani met around April of 2014, when both were coaches on “The Voice.” Shelton was still married to country star Miranda Lambert at that point.
By the summer of 2015, Shelton and Lambert were divorced. Their divorce came as Stefani’s own marriage was crumbling. So the two coaches leaned on each other to get through their respective breakups.
In November of 2015, a source confirmed to People that Shelton and Stefani were dating. The next few years were filled with gifts – such as a horse – red carpet appearances, duets and professions of love in interviews and on social media. On Oct. 27, 2020, the pair announced their engagement.
“It’s been crazy,” Shelton told Access Hollywood. “My life, my personal life, it’s just been shaken up. You know, it’s been flipped inside out. But I wouldn’t trade any moment. Because to be where I ended up now, I wouldn’t trade anything about it.”
The Wedding Planning Is Going Fine, All Things Considered
In a recent interview with ET Canada, Stefani talked about her wedding planning process. She hinted that just as it’s hard for everyone to plan for the future right now, it’s been especially difficult to plan a wedding amidst the pandemic.
“We can’t really plan the wedding because we don’t know what’s happening,” Stefani said. “I think that we’re sort of just putting a target and date out there and seeing if we can work backward.”
But Stefani counts herself lucky to have such a great groom. As difficult as the pandemic has made things, she knows they’ll manage their wedding somehow.
“It’s exciting,” she added. “It’s just really about, for me, more that I have this amazing best friend that is my guy in life, and I feel so grateful.”
As for the soundtrack to their wedding, it just figures that with two superstar musicians involved, the entertainment is going to be spectacular.
Shelton recently suggested that the choice of wedding singer is between Miley Cyrus and Adam Levine of Maroon 5 with his full band. Either way, the wedding is sure to be a blast in spite of the pandemic.
