The world misses Blake Shelton and Adam Levine’s bromance – and Shelton clearly does, too, as he’s trolling his old friend on Twitter.
For many, the best part of The Voice was watching Adam Levine and Blake Shelton spar. The two became good friends on and off camera, and their genuine chemistry elevated the show. Fans were left wanting for their banter, however, when Levine abruptly exited after Season 16.
After over a decade of being a coach, NBC had announced the Maroon 5 frontman would return for S17. Soon after, though, Levine pulled out – citing he needed time with his children. Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres about it on her show, the pop star did seem genuine about his exit. And he also – of course – threw some massive love out there for Blake Shelton.
Blake Shelton Trolls Adam Levine on Twitter
A couple seasons on, Shelton is the only original host remaining for the show. As he continues with S19 for NBC, he clearly misses his old pal, too.
“Miss you and the bleach, buddy @adamlevine… Might need to break out a certain wig on Halloween!” Shelton trolls Levine. The wig, of course, references Levine’s bleached hair the singer sported back in S12 and beyond.
The two titans of music have spoken on their lasting friendship in many interviews, as well. Shelton reveals to Access (below) that the two regularly facetime each other, and have never lost contact. He also says “it’s hard to not have someone that stupid to make fun of” with a huge smile.
“We’ll be friends from now on,” Shelton continues genuinely. When Access hosts ask if Lavine will return to the show, however, Shelton seems a bit less enthusiastic. “Maybe someday – who knows – he might end up coming back. I doubt it, but you never know,” he says.
Right afterwards, the talk switches to his now fiance, Gwen Stefani. The two are on S19 of the Voice now together, and Shelton is thrilled for it. Good man.
