The Reagan family lives to serve and protect. It runs in their blood. Tom Selleck’s character, NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, sets the example. With the Season 12 premiere of “Blue Bloods” right around the corner, the show honored the Commissioner’s dedication to keeping New York safe with an Instagram post.

Good thing, too. On Friday, the Season 12 premiere episode will find Frank going toe-to-toe with the New York City mayor over the best way to handle a high-profile assassination attempt. Which man do you think knows best? Well, the official “Blue Bloods” Instagram account has an idea.

“If anyone knows how to protect the city, it’s Frank. Don’t miss the season premiere of #BlueBloods FRIDAY,” the post’s caption reads.

It helps that he has an entire family’s worth of support. Of course, the likes of Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan, Will Estes’ Jamie Reagan, and Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan will have their own issues to deal with come Friday.

“Blue Bloods” Police Commissioner Frank Reagan May Know How Best to Protect the City, But How Does Fare in Matters of the Heart?

Diehard “Blue Bloods” fans know that Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan lost his wife, Mary Margaret Reagan, before the show’s action picks up. Even though we don’t really know her, the family frequently talks about her around the dinner table. Further, we know that Frank has continued to wear his wedding ring in the years since her passing.

Fans have been wondering if perhaps it’s time for Tom Selleck’s character to think about pursuing a relationship. Ask Tom, though, and it doesn’t seem like romance is at the top of Frank Reagan’s list of priorities.

“Frank’s a little senior. He’s also still wearing his wedding ring. We’ve never gone into it. Maybe it’s too self-centered a story about the why of all that. He’s pretty much wrapped himself in his work,” Selleck told Parade. “The hardest thing about it is, especially with someone who is obviously as vulnerable as Frank and probably scared of relationships, you can’t just bring somebody on the show and do an episode about it. It takes a lot of planning.”

That isn’t to say Frank Reagan is completely closed off to the idea. But as the Commissioner of the NYPD, he doesn’t exactly have a ton of free time on his hands.

“He’s attracted to women all the time, but dating’s a different thing. I don’t know how you get to a date in one episode. They have to hire somebody who’s willing to, No. 1, make a leap of faith, like I did on ‘Friends’— there was no script — and have a significant arc. That’s the only way to do it,” Selleck continued.
