“Blue Bloods” Stars Donnie Wahlberg and Marisa Ramirez play crime-fighting detectives on the hit TV series. On the show, they remain partners in law as well as seemingly close friends. However, fans want to know what their relationship is like off-screen.
Danny and Baez have continued to solve tough crimes together since season three. Throughout the years, their partnership has stayed friendly and consisted mostly of business. Although their bond seems to grow closer each season, it’s never crossed the line into romantic.
Wahlberg gave insight on Danny and Baez’s relationship, during a TV Insider interview.
“The relationship on-screen and off is very similar,” Wahlberg said. “Why Danny and Baez work so well together are the same reasons why Donnie and Marisa work so well together. A lot of respect for each other. We communicate, we listen, and we’re patient with each other.”
He then goes on to further describe what his relationship is like with Ramirez.
“Marisa’s very respectful of me and when she came onto the show after a few years,” the “Blue Bloods” actor said. “She was very respectful of my position in the show, but I also respect what she brings to the show and I encourage her to use her voice and speak up and really own her place on the show as well.”
Wahlberg also mentioned that the bond they share off-screen definitely reflects on-screen.
“We’re very close friends and we look after each, and have each other’s backs,” he added in TV Insider.
‘Blue Bloods’ Will Danny and Baez’s Relationship Turn Romantic?
Based in New York, the CBS police drama series “Blue Bloods” keeps fans intrigued. Especially, when it comes to the on-screen relationship between Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez).
While waiting for season 12 to begin, fans will speculate all summer about Danny and Baez’s relationship turning romantic.
Even though they’ve made it clear from day one, fans can’t help but wonder if there’s something more between the detective partners. Will Danny follow in the footsteps of his younger brother Jamie (Will Estes) and become romantically involved with his partner?
As far as the possibility of their on-screen relationship heating up, showrunner Kevin Wade shuts down the idea in a recent interview with Pop Culture.
“We recognize it and certainly the actors like each other, in front of the camera and between setups,” Wade told TV Insider in May. “I’m gonna use Sam and Diane from Cheers and really age myself here, but once it happens, there’s nowhere to go. There really aren’t stories in happy couples and there are definitely not stories in police detectives on the job having a personal relationship with their partner.”
Unfortunately, fans will never get to see Danny and Baez as a romantic couple. Plus, if they decided to take their relationship to the next level, they would have to get new partners.
Perhaps down the road they’ll consider the two falling in love, but for the time being they’re just good friends.
