Apparently, Wahlberg’s a huge fan of the South Korean boy band. BTS started making music in 2013 and rose to popularity in the U.S. in the last five years or so. Their songs have topped the Billboard charts and they’ve won numerous awards over the years.
Wahlberg’s band, NKOTB, experienced similar fame earlier in the 1980s and 90s. So the “Blue Bloods” star knows exactly what the seven members of BTS experience every day as a result of their fame. And he commended them in an Instagram post earlier for staying “humble” about it.
NKOTB happened to run into BTS on the red carpet at the American Music Awards this weekend. The two boy bands paused for a group photo, which Wahlberg reposted on his page.
“Having been a member of a boy band (@nkotb) that went to the @amas as a young man, and received screams that never stopped for the duration of the entire show (so much so that other people’s fans actually started booing us back — true story), I can tell you that these guys #BTS handled the event with so much grace,” the “Blue Bloods” star begins in his caption.
“They loved their fans for their support (aka #BTSARMY), they gave love and respect to every single artist they came across and they never stopped being humble, the entire night,” Wahlberg continued. “I was proud to wear their T-shirt on the red carpet and am more proud that I did after meeting them. They were a true example of how to #LoveYourself and how that love allows you to love everyone else! 💜.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Donnie Wahlberg Shares Appreciation For Fans After AMAs
“Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg had an emotional moment at the AMAs earlier this weekend. He and the rest of the New Kids on the Block got to sing with a fellow boy band called New Edition. Believe it or not, New Edition inspired the NKOTB to become a boy band later on in the 80s. And now, they had a chance to perform together on stage.
But the “Blue Bloods” star gave a shoutout to the fans after the performance, not just New Edition. He thanked them for supporting NKOTB and understanding the ways his band was influenced by New Edition.
“Taking a moment to acknowledge our fans for always acknowledging our inspirations — @newedition,” Wahlberg wrote earlier. “Thank you, #Blockheads, for supporting @newedition and @nkotb this weekend, at the @amas — but thank you also for always recognizing @newedition’s impact on us.”
He continued, “As much as you love us, you always give @newedition the credit and respect that they so truly deserve. I’ve said it a million times — ‘without New Edition there is no New Kids On the Block’ — but when our fans take the baton and spread the word too, it means so much more than you could ever know. Thank you.”
