Steve Schirripa’s role on “Blue Bloods” is only his most recent foray into the world of New York crime. In the early 2000s, he found himself on the other side of the law as Bobby “Bacala” Baccalieri in “The Sopranos.” Now, he plays retired NYPD detective and DA Investigator Anthony Abetemarco. The role has fans wondering how old his character is supposed to be.
The fact that Schirripa’s character works so closely with Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan doesn’t do him any favors. Schirripa is currently 63. And not that he looks particularly old, but Moynahan remains stunning at 50. As a result, Erin Reagan has a youthful look to her. Since the two characters work together regularly on “Blue Bloods,” it got the internet curious.
How old is Anthony Abetemarco? It’s a surprisingly tough question to answer with any certainty. But Reddit tried to get to the bottom of it recently.
“I’m.not.good.with ages and timelines. How old is he supposed to be if you had to guess? And is Erin younger or similar age?” The original post asked.
“I’d guess 50-55 and yes, I believe Erin is supposed to be younger,” the first reply read.
“Erin would definitely be younger. She turned 40 on Season 6. Episode 7, making her 45 now,” another added.
Since Bridget Moynahan is a series regular, we simply have more details about her character’s background. According to Fandom.com, Erin Reagan was born around 1975. This seems to confirm that she is indeed roughly 45 years old.
Schirripa, on the other hand, is a different story. He appears frequently on “Blue Bloods,” but he has only been featured in 91 episodes compared to Moynahan’s 235. As a result, his character’s birthdate isn’t clearly specified. So Reddit’s best guess is as good as any.
Bridget Moynahan Once Called Schirripa a ‘Big Brother’ to Her Character on ‘Blue Bloods’
Working in the District Attorney’s office, Erin Reagan doesn’t spend much time at work alongside her actual brothers. Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), her older brother, is a detective. And Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) began his career as a beat cop.
Even if she did, she frequently butts heads with her real brothers. So the relationship she shares with Anthony Abetemarco is a refreshing change of pace. When Dan Levine of PopCulture observed that Schirripa’s character seemed like an older brother to Erin on “Blue Bloods,” Moynahan agreed.
“Yeah, one that doesn’t needle me or, you know, causes problems, basically,” Moynahan said. “He is, he’s great, you know. I was thrilled that they found me somebody that not only looked the part but really feels like the part. And he, um, he’s kind of dropped right into the role.”
Steve Schirripa has been going strong on “Blue Bloods” since 2015. And however old he may be, he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down.
